Programming/Public Relations Manager - Bristol Public Library. Summary: Schedules and hosts programs for the Library that respond to customer and community demand. Assists with special events and promotions. Responsible for publicity and public relations. Develops, designs, and produces library newsletter, publicity materials, including but not limited to brochures, booklists and program flyers for distribution in paper electronic formats including social media outlets. Prepares library calendar for publication. Records statistics, evaluates programs, maintains budget including expenditures, contracts, and other receipts. Public Services Librarian - Allen Music Library, University of Hartford, West Hartford. Position Summary: Provides formal and informal bibliographic instruction to students, faculty and staff. Supervises circulation, reserves, stack maintenance and equipment operations in the music/dance library. Assists library patrons in their research using print, online and audiovisual resources in music and dance. Recommends public service policies for the Allen Library to Head of Allen Library and Mortensen Library's Head of Reference and Public Services. This regular full-time exempt position may work evenings and/or rotate weekends. Key Responsibilities: Assists students and other library patrons in making the best use of print, electronic, and audiovisual music, dance, and other performing arts resources in a wide array of languages and formats and responds to questions. Recruits, trains, and evaluates staff who provide reference and information service to library patrons. Helps devise and implement public service policies, procedures, new services, and marketing strategies in consultation or collaboration with the Head of Allen Library and the Mortensen Library's Head of Reference and Public Services. Assists the Head of the Allen Library in identifying priorities, goals, strategies, and direction of Allen Library. Plans and presents instructional classes on information resources to students, faculty and staff. Administers the HLM 020 online information literacy course. Maintains print manuals and online information. Supervises the Allen Library circulation department, including circulation services, course reserves, stack maintenance, and equipment. Supervises one full-time assistant plus student employees. Monitors the student employee budget in an effort to ensure prudent fiscal management. Updates and maintains the Allen Library web pages in conjunction with the University Libraries Web Applications Developer and Technology Specialist to enhance usability, promote library offerings, and ensure maintenance is in compliance with University standards and University Libraries policies. Helps develop, enhance, and/or test information search tools. Provides recommendations for title development of the print and online reference collection and assists in the overall maintenance of the collection. Maintains awareness of trends and advances in the field through attendance at relevant meetings or seminars as well as through regular examination of literature in the field. Participates in relevant professional organizations. Serves on internal and external committees as appropriate. Maintains statistics and develops accurate reports for the Head of the Allen Library. Performs other related duties as assigned. Indicates an "essential" job function. Formal Education: Bachelor's Degree required with a major in music and Master's Degree of Library Science from an A.L.A. accredited institution required (or recognized equivalents). Work Experience: 1 year to < 2 years. Knowledge & Skills: Professional Skills: Requires knowledge of theories and practices of a professional field. This level of skill is typically reserved for an individual with a four-year degree, or a high-level vocational skill demonstrated by a number of years of on-the-position experience (i.e. management). Young Adult Librarian - New Canaan Library. Library Technical Assistant - Hamden Public Library. Position Definition: Performs responsible and varied paraprofessional library duties or administrative clerical work. Assists patrons in using library services and facilities. May select and/or maintain materials of a specific unit or library division. Prepared materials in promoting use of library, including posters, newsletters and exhibits. Processes books and materials for mailing in the interlibrary loan program. Maintains records of outgoing and incoming materials. Maintains inventory of library materials and supplies. Interacts with professional staff in maintaining Library collection by recommending or selecting new and replacement books, periodicals and other materials. Examples of Incidental Duties: May lead story hours; library tours, craft programs, and related events to encourage reading, viewing and listening skills when assigned to Children's unit. Relieves other employees as directed by supervisor, including responsibility for a unit in temporary absence of professional librarian. Interviews candidates for Page positions and provides on-the-job training to Pages and Clerks. Minimum Qualifications Required: An Associates Degree in Library Science, or two (2) years' experience in public library work, or an equivalent combination of experience and training. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: A working knowledge of library principles and practices is required. Must be able to apply the principles of library science to resolve practical problems and to deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Must be able to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, and diagrammatic and schedules form. Must be able to add, subtract, multiply and divide all units of measure, and compute ratios, rates and percentages. Must acquire a proficiency in library computer applications and have a general working knowledge of other interfacing departmental applications. Must acquire a proficiency in department specific applications and have a general knowledge of integrated software such as Microsoft Office and its applications, including Word and Excel, and be able to utilize the Town's e-mail system, or be able to acquire these skills within a limited training period as determined by department needs. Must be able to relate to and have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with library staff, children and adult patrons. Marketing Intern - Connecticut Library Consortium (CLC), Middletown. Part-Time, Unpaid. March - June, 2013. Description: Are you a library student with an interest or background in marketing? CLC is offering an exciting opportunity for a creative and proactive library student to advocate for and serve over 800 Connecticut libraries. The Connecticut Library Consortium is a statewide membership collaborative serving all types of Connecticut libraries by helping them strengthen their ability to serve their users. CLC saved its members over 6 million dollars last year through discounts on materials, supplies, and events, while offering numerous opportunities for networking, collaboration, and learning. The Marketing Intern will assist CLC in creating and distributing advocacy and publicity resources for its members, a list of museums offering passes to libraries, and other promotional materials as needed. The Marketing Intern will also assist CLC staff in planning and staffing CLC events and events at which CLC is exhibiting. This position will be supervised by the Executive Director. This minimum length of the internship is 3 months, though extensions are negotiable. Flexible schedule with the exception of required event attendance. The Marketing Intern will receive academic credit (if requested) and free attendance at the Connecticut Library Association conference in April. Free attendance at other industry events is possible. Responsibilities: Conduct research, create, and design the 2013 Museum Pass Brochure, a list of museums in and around Connecticut offering passes to libraries. Library Executive Director - New Canaan Library

Library Executive Director - New Canaan Library—a 21st century library—seeks a 21st century Executive Director! The Board of Trustees seeks a broad-gauged thinker and dynamic leader to provide strategic direction, participate in the building of a stellar new library and continue to develop the Library’s role as the cornerstone of the community’s intellectual and cultural life. In addition to managing day-to-day library operations, the key objectives for the next Executive Director will be to move forward with the strategic vision, participate in planning the new facility, lead a capital campaign for its development, and enhance alternative funding streams to continue an outstanding level of service, programs and growth. Responsibilities: The Executive Director is appointed by and reports to an 18-member Library Board of Trustees and works with the Board, staff, and others to implement the strategic vision for the Library. The Executive Director is responsible for the overall administration of day-to-day operations and finances of the Library, coordinating with the Board of Trustees on major initiatives and managing development and fundraising programs. The Executive Director will be the face of the organization and be responsible for managing the budget as well as provide staffing and personnel leadership. Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have an advanced degree in Nonprofit Management, Public or Business Administration or Library Science. The position requires a minimum of eight years of relevant work experience including four years of experience in an administrative capacity, or any combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to successfully perform the requirements of the position. Essential attributes and skills include: experience and success with fundraising and development; excellent writing and communication skills; strong traditional and digital marketing skills, confident presentation skills, political acumen; collaborative and consensus-building skills; and a thorough knowledge of current trends and “best practices” for library or nonprofit management. Proven success working with and reporting to a governing board is a preferred qualification. Experience with a major building and construction project is a plus but not essential. Compensation: The position offers a hiring salary range of $115,000-130,000 (placement dependent upon experience and qualifications) and an attractive benefits package. Children’s Librarian - Old Lyme Phoebe Griffin Noyes Library is looking for a dynamic, independent, technologically proficient individual for a full-time professional position to manage Children’s Services. Equally important attributes for the job are enthusiasm and motivation for working with children and promoting the love of reading through library services. The Children’s Librarian is responsible for age’s birth to 12 and works closely with the Young Adult Librarian to coordinate services. The core responsibilities are collection development, programming, marketing of services to the public, readers’ advisory, providing homework help and/or afterschool activities. In addition, the responsibilities include performing outreach through community agencies and schools as well as collaboration with local and regional partners. School visits, providing assistance with public computers and public access catalog, and overseeing the summer reading program are also required. Assisting public services staff in the Circulation Department and Adult Information Services is also required. Qualifications: requires a Master's Degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited school, preferably with a concentration in children’s services. One year experience in children’s library services preferred. Requires knowledge of children’s literature, reading interests and the ability to relate to children and adults. This person will have excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills as well as understanding of room/behavior management; relevant computer skills in Microsoft Word and knowledge of MS Office software; basic knowledge of Internet and graphic design software, electronic and digital resources and general knowledge of library automated systems. Research & Instruction Librarian/Special Projects Coordinator - Connecticut College, a highly selective private liberal arts college, located in the historic seaport of New London, seeks a highly experienced Librarian to provide instructional and research resources, initiate and develop activities to integrate research instruction into the curriculum, provide reference services for the faculty, students, scholars and other patrons by selecting information resources to support their instructional and scholarly needs.
