Library Assistant, Full-Time - Enfield Public Library. Hourly Rate: $20.18 . General Statement of Duties: The Library Assistant performs many support activities involved in operating a library by assisting the professional librarians following established rules and procedures and policies. May assist in the administration of a branch in the absence of a professional librarian. Library Assistants generally work in both technical and user services. User services work is directly with the public to help them find the information needed. Technical services is acquiring and preparing material for use and dealing less frequently with the public. An employee in this class shall perform routine general library work and may acquire proficiency in only one of the general specialized areas of library work. Library Assistants may work on special projects. Supervision Received: Works under the general direction and supervision of the Head of Circulation who issues instructions, spot checks work or requires cross-checking by other personnel, but has some latitude for the exercise of independent judgment and initiative. Essential Job Functions: In the administration of a branch or division in the administration of a branch or division in the absence of a professional librarian; participates in all the work at the circulation desk such as processing interlibrary loans, and reserves books, may supervise computer use and train others in the use of the computer; instructs patrons in the use of media and equipment and operates equipment, answers telephone, receives overdues, etc; orients patrons to the library by informing them of services available and the location of media, by recommending media and by explaining use of the Public Access catalog; records departmental statistics; compiles and maintains suspension list; compiles and maintains reserved books. Other Job Functions: Provides informational and directional services for patrons, assists in locating reference sources and instructs in their use; operates and maintains audiovisual equipment; may assist in the promoting of programs for patrons; maintains the collection by recommending what media will be mended or discarded and by shelf reading; performs related duties as required. Library Technician IV: Access Services (Nights/Weekends Days) - University of Bridgeport Wahlstrom Library. Job Summary: The Library Technician IV works under the direction of the University Librarian to perform support duties across multiple functions, including interlibrary loan, circulation, technical processing, serials, instruction, shelf maintenance, etc. Responsible for learning advanced procedures as Library increases electronic services and resources. Must possess good customer service orientation and strong interpersonal skills in dealing with patrons and other coworkers. Must be skilled in generating electronic reports of user services. Duties and Responsibilities: Assist patrons in use of Library resources and services and software on Library computers. Assist patrons printing, scanning, copying or needing Projectors/TVs/VCRs. Maintain Room Scheduling Calendar and manage Room Use/Policies daily. Train and Coordinate activities of student workers. Check In and Check Out of Library Resources. Assist patrons with Renewals, Process overdues, late fine and fee resolution and communicate all changes of system fees with University Librarian and other Library staff. Process acquisition/reserve items using appropriate system and tools. Affix labels and anti-theft strips to materials. Generate reports, keep statistics daily. Utilize all relevant functions in ExLibris Library system, including Voyager Acquisitions, Circulation, and Web Voyage, Metalib, SFX, and Primo. Process patron requests for interlibrary loan when needed. Participate in developing new, more efficient workflow and policies. Participate in staff meetings representing student issues. Communicate patron requests and complaints to University Librarian. Shelve and straighten materials, shifting when necessary. Create written procedures when requested. Other duties as assigned by Supervisor. Qualifications: 2 years of college and 2 years appropriate experience in a Library. Excellent keyboarding skills; demonstrated basic knowledge of Excel, Word, and Outlook. Demonstrated mastery of basic computer operations, including internet navigation skills. Ability to work with minimal supervision. Ability to make steady progress on large tasks weekly. Attention to detail; production of high quality, accurate work. Demonstrated ability to work in teams, be flexible and acquire new skills independently. Must be able to lift 30 pounds and work around dust and mold. Strong service orientation.
