Children’s Librarian - East Hampton Public Library

Children’s Librarian - East Hampton Public Library is seeking an individual with demonstrated supervisory experience and familiarization with the operation of children’s library services. This is a full-time position. Duties include, but are not limited to planning, developing and executing programs designed to interest children; provide outreach and in-library services; supervise staff and volunteers; prepare statistics, reports, publicity requests and work circulation desk as needed. Position requires strong knowledge of technology frameworks used to deliver library services in a growing community with changing needs. Strong interpersonal skills with all age groups are essential. Head of Facilities and Security - Russell Library (Middletown) seeks a building and maintenance manager with supervisory and construction project management experience to develop and direct the maintenance, repair and upkeep of the Library’s buildings, grounds and capital equipment. This position oversees and performs security services to ensure safety of staff, patrons, and property. Applicants should have project management and supervisory experience, as well as hands-on maintenance and repair skills. The beginning salary is $58,486 per year, with benefits, for a 40-hour work week. The Head of Facilities and Security: Develops near-term and long-range plans and objectives for the department. Recommends appointments and trains, supervises and evaluates employees. Oversees the maintenance, cleaning and repair of buildings and grounds to ensure the safety and appearance of facilities. Evaluates the safety and energy efficiency of buildings and equipment and recommends repair, replacement or procedures as needed. Serves as liaison with architects, engineers, contractors and public officials on building repair or equipment replacement and with local safety officials on emergency and security issues. Develops and administers security procedures for public, employees and property, and serves as security officer while on duty. Recommends department budget and administers approved budget. Oversees purchases of equipment, materials, supplies, and vendor contracts as needed. The skills and knowledge required would generally be acquired with graduation from a vocational technical school, or successful completion of an apprenticeship training program, and five years of progressively responsible experience in building maintenance or construction work, including three years of supervisory or lead maintenance experience; or any equivalent combination of education and skills which demonstrates possession of the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Experience and/or training in security, public safety, or law enforcement are also preferred. Candidate must be flexible about scheduling, have strong interpersonal communication skills, and the ability to maintain composure in difficult situations, sometimes involving unruly members of the public. CLC is offering an exciting opportunity for a creative and proactive library student to advocate for and serve over 800 Connecticut libraries. The Connecticut Library Consortium is a statewide membership collaborative serving all types of Connecticut libraries by helping them strengthen their ability to serve their users. CLC saved its members over 6 million dollars last year through discounts on materials, supplies, and events, while offering numerous opportunities for networking, collaboration, and learning. The Marketing Intern will assist CLC in creating and distributing advocacy and publicity resources for its members, a list of museums offering passes to libraries, and other promotional materials as needed. Electronic Resources Librarian - Andrew Mellon Library, Choate Rosemary Hall, Wallingford. Position available: September 2013. The Electronic Resources Librarian position is a 36-week administrative faculty position reporting to the Director of the Andrew Mellon Library. The schedule includes two evenings a week and a portion of the weekend. The Librarian must have a Masters of Library Science, demonstrated facility with rapidly changing technologies and experience providing library services to young people in an academic environment. Choate Rosemary Hall is an independent boarding school; consequently a commitment to actively participating in the school community and student life is expected. Responsibilities: Support students and faculty as they discover, evaluate and retrieve library resources, regardless of format. Participate in the effort to develop the most appropriate collection of resources and technology for students' academic needs and personal interests. Keep current on technology trends and strive to implement appropriate new technologies. Create and support the library's academic atmosphere. Identify appropriate electronic resources: evaluate and present the information for consideration. Promote new electronic resources by sharing information with key faculty and by preparing instructional guides. Work with librarians and faculty to expand the role of LibGuides in the library instructional program. Actively participate in the library's instructional program. Prepare general orientation sessions; demonstrate online resources to classes as necessary. Work with students on an individual basis to teach them how to find and use appropriate materials on a variety of platforms. Actively participate in the acquisition process. Read reviews in the library journals and internet sites which describe appropriate resources. Participate in the formal weeding process to insure that the collection houses the best material available regardless of format. Actively participate in the discussions and planning sessions for the library program. Bring to library faculty meetings issues of concern and ideas for improving the library program. Monitor and oversee the work of the library supporting staff during the evenings when serving as the librarian on duty. Work to see that the library study atmosphere is maintained through the firm, fair and friendly application of the library rules and procedures. Monographic Acquisitions Librarian and Coordinator of Collection Development - Wesleyan University, Middletown, CT. Under the general direction of the Acquisitions & Electronic Resources Librarian, the Monographic Acquisitions Librarian and Coordinator of Collection Development serves as head of monographic acquisitions operations at Wesleyan University Library, collaborates with counterparts at Trinity and Connecticut Colleges on CTW Library Consortium initiatives involving monographic acquisitions, and provides strategic direction for monographic acquisitions initiatives at Wesleyan. Responsibilities: Manages the monographic acquisitions functions and budget for the Wesleyan University Library, organizes and schedules projects, and serves as a contact person for faculty, staff, students, and vendors with monographic acquisitions questions. Keeps abreast of trends in scholarly communication and monographic publishing in print and electronic formats, and provides strategic direction within the library to integrate these changes, streamlining workflow and maximizing access in support of teaching, learning and research. Develops and adapts processes for the acquisition of media in all formats including audio and video. Works closely with the professional and support staff of all other library units to ensure that monographic acquisitions operations integrate with workflows of other groups or services in the Library. Coordinates with the Head of Cataloging and commercial book vendors to develop best practices for the importation of bibliographic monographic resources. Selects vendors, monitors vendor performance and negotiates vendor agreements for electronic book packages and other electronic monographs and one-time purchases. Supervises the Acquisitions Assistant. With the Assistant, adapts processes to take advantage of new technologies, establishes procedures when new systems are implemented, and covers essential duties of the Assistant when necessary. With the Acquisitions Assistant, handles complex or difficult order requests, reviews the status of outstanding orders, and communicates with students, faculty or others if material is not available, suggesting alternatives when possible. Serves as the Coordinator of Collection Development, convening Selectors’ and Collection Group meetings, providing regular reports on monograph spending by department and format, and generally supporting the work of managing the Library’s monographic collections. Evaluates monographs offered as gifts, supervising processing and acknowledgement, and consulting with selectors or other librarians regarding the suitability of offered monographs for the circulating collection. Selects materials in one or more areas of expertise and serves as a faculty liaison. Serves as a member of the regular Olin Reference Desk coverage rotation. Acts as the primary Wesleyan representative on the CTW Collections Group to explore consortial purchase options for monographic materials that will increase access while reducing cost-per-use. Serves the Wesleyan community through library and campus-wide committees. Participates actively in regional and national professional organizations and contributes to the profession. Science Librarian - Wesleyan University, Olin Library

Science Librarian - Wesleyan University, Middletown, CT. Reporting to the University Librarian, this position is responsible for the provision of library services and resources to undergraduates, graduate students and faculty in the sciences, and for the management of the Science Library, a separate facility that operates independently from—but closely with—other libraries at Wesleyan. Responsibilities: Manages the Science Library, supervising one FTE bargaining unit staff person and working collaboratively with them to ensure that the library functions smoothly and effectively. Serves as liaison to faculty in mathematics and the sciences, working closely with them to improve library services for the sciences and encouraging input into library initiatives which will impact faculty and students. Provides reference service to users of the Science Library and, as a member of the regular Olin reference desk rotation, to general library users. Reference work may involve some weekend or evening hours. Provides group and individual instruction on library resources and services to undergraduates, graduate students, faculty and visiting researchers in the sciences. Manages science collections and information resources, selecting materials to be added to the Science collection and working with faculty to determine which materials might be withdrawn from the collection when necessary. Works closely with faculty, students, ITS Academic Computing Managers, and other campus constituencies to support research and other initiatives involving the sciences. Initiates, plans and implements renovation, stacks maintenance and other Science Library facilities projects. Participates in the management of the Wesleyan University Library via membership in standing library committees and other responsibilities. Serves on University committees and projects. Contributes to the profession by participation in regional and national library organizations. Minimum qualifications: MLS degree from an accredited library school and three to five years’ experience as a librarian providing reference service in the natural or physical sciences; strong service orientation; commitment to working in a diverse community; demonstrated ability to work in a team-based and collegial environment; and knowledge of scientific publishing practices and current trends in scholarly communication. Preferred qualifications: A masters’ degree or doctorate in mathematics or one of the natural or physical sciences strongly preferred. Significant experience providing individual and group instruction in the use of scientific and general library databases. Collection management experience in an academic library.
