Oversees subscriptions and tracks renewals for online databases and hardcopy standing orders to ensure timely and appropriate resources are made available to all patrons. Facilitates the management of all donated items, which includes receipt, acknowledgement, and the sorting of materials. Updates, maintains, and copy catalogs new and donated materials, including searching for bibliographic records and downloading them from online utilities, updating those utilities to accurately reflect the University Libraries’ inventory as needed. Initiates and supervises special projects as necessary and appropriate. Assists in the training and oversight of student library assistants in the processing of materials. Reviews and suggests improvements and upgrades to the ILS and the WALDO consortium. Represents the University Libraries on various internal and external committees. As a member of the Collection Development Committee, provides regular reports on expenditures. Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with faculty in the determination of curriculum needs and serves as a subject selector. Project Coordinator for the Connecticut Digital Newspaper Project - Connecticut State Library, Hartford

Project Coordinator for the Connecticut Digital Newspaper Project - Connecticut State Library, Hartford. A project coordinator, to be based out of the Connecticut State Library, is sought to supervise the Connecticut Digital Newspaper Project a project funded by a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) to digitize 100,000 pages of microfilmed Connecticut newspapers. This is a 35 hour per week, contracted position, with modest travel required within Connecticut and annual trips to Washington D.C. Ideally, the start date is November 1, 2013 and the position will continue through September 30, 2015. Compensation will depend upon experience and level of involvement and compensation shall not exceed $140,000 over 22 months. Benefits are not included. Under the direction of the Project Co-Director (Jane F. Cullinane) the Project Coordinator will: Manage project staff and coordinate project workflow; Train and supervise Project Library Technical Assistant; Develop and document procedures and oversee selection, digitization, metadata capture, OCR, workflow control, quality control and related activities; Develop and maintain tracking system for microfilm and deliverables; Work with vendors to ensure high quality deliverables; Confirm bibliographic completeness and perform technical analysis of microfilm; Validate scanned images and metadata; Work with Project Cataloger and the Serials Librarian to maintain project database; Work with Project Co-Director as project spokesperson and participate in publicity efforts, such as the website, blogging and representing the project at meetings; Work with Project Co-Director to manage project budget; Deliver progress reports on specified semi-annual schedule; Other duties as assigned. Required Experience and Qualifications: Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited school or foreign equivalent; At least 3 years of relevant experience; Solid understanding of digitization and/or conversion projects; Experience with XML and standard metadata schemas (non-MARC and MARC) and principles governing standards in digital libraries; Experience with quality control of digital projects; Project management experience; Must have a valid driver’s license. Desirable Experience and Qualifications: Knowledge of microfilming procedures, especially newspaper microfilming; Knowledge of newspapers or serials, and ability to assess complex relationships between titles; Demonstrated ability to pay attention to detail; Equally important are strong interpersonal and oral and written communication skills, the ability to analyze and solve problems; the ability to work with a variety of people; flexibility and willingness to shift priorities according to current needs. Under the general direction of the Acquisitions & Electronic Resources Librarian, the Monographic Acquisitions Librarian and Coordinator of Collection Development serves as head of monographic acquisitions operations at Wesleyan University Library, collaborates with counterparts at Trinity and Connecticut Colleges on CTW Library Consortium initiatives involving monographic acquisitions, and provides strategic direction for monographic acquisitions initiatives at Wesleyan. Responsibilities: Manages the monographic acquisitions functions and budget for the Wesleyan University Library, organizes and schedules projects, and serves as a contact person for faculty, staff, students, and vendors with monographic acquisitions questions. Keeps abreast of trends in scholarly communication and monographic publishing in print and electronic formats, and provides strategic direction within the library to integrate these changes, streamlining workflow and maximizing access in support of teaching, learning and research. Develops and adapts processes for the acquisition of media in all formats including audio and video. Works closely with the professional and support staff of all other library units to ensure that monographic acquisitions operations integrate with workflows of other groups or services in the Library. Coordinates with the Head of Cataloging and commercial book vendors to develop best practices for the importation of bibliographic monographic resources. Selects vendors, monitors vendor performance and negotiates vendor agreements for electronic book packages and other electronic monographs and one-time purchases. Supervises the Acquisitions Assistant. With the Assistant, adapts processes to take advantage of new technologies, establishes procedures when new systems are implemented, and covers essential duties of the Assistant when necessary. With the Acquisitions Assistant, handles complex or difficult order requests, reviews the status of outstanding orders, and communicates with students, faculty or others if material is not available, suggesting alternatives when possible. Serves as the Coordinator of Collection Development, convening Selectors’ and Collection Group meetings, providing regular reports on monograph spending by department and format, and generally supporting the work of managing the Library’s monographic collections. Evaluates monographs offered as gifts, supervising processing and acknowledgement, and consulting with selectors or other librarians regarding the suitability of offered monographs for the circulating collection. Selects materials in one or more areas of expertise and serves as a faculty liaison. Serves as a member of the regular Olin Reference Desk coverage rotation. Acts as the primary Wesleyan representative on the CTW Collections Group to explore consortial purchase options for monographic materials that will increase access while reducing cost-per-use. Serves the Wesleyan community through library and campus-wide committees. Participates actively in regional and national professional organizations and contributes to the profession. Minimum Qualifications: ALA-accredited MLS; Three or more years’ experience working in an academic library;Supervisory experience; Experience using the acquisitions or cataloging module of an Integrated Library System; Expertise in library acquisitions as well as knowledge of emerging trends in scholarly communication; Demonstrated time management and organizational skills; Demonstrated oral and written communication skills with a variety of campus and other constituents; Experience using financial systems, spreadsheet applications and other productivity applications. Position Summary: This position is located in the Library of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, New London, Connecticut, a four-year, accredited, degree granting institution and center of leadership development for the Coast Guard.
