The Iowa State University School of Education is seeking applications for a full-time, nine-month, tenure track position in science education at the rank of Assistant Professor.

We seek a faculty member who will enrich the school's commitment to high quality teaching and scholarly inquiry into science education, teacher education, and STEM issues. The successful candidate will positively impact the broader community through research, teaching, outreach, and service.

Responsibilities
The successful candidate for this position will engage in high levels of research activity in science education − publishing research and scholarship, seeking external funding, and participating in professional organizations and conferences. The Assistant Professor will be involved in the ISU teacher education program, teach courses in science education at the undergraduate and graduate levels; advise masters and doctoral degree candidates; collaborate with faculty in the Center for Excellence in Science, Mathematics, and Engineering Education, collaborate with others across the School and the university; and participate in service and outreach activities.

Required Qualifications

  • An earned doctorate in science education, or a closely related field, by the appointment start date
  • PreK-12 science classroom teaching experience
  • Demonstrated potential for research/scholarship productivity, including documentation of a research agenda or emerging line of research related to science education

This search is part of a Cluster Hire in Science and Mathematics Education in the College of Science and Mathematics as part of a multi-year initiative to build a critical mass of expertise in innovative STEM education and pedagogical best practices for K-16. The University of Nebraska at Omaha College of Arts & Sciences seeks to fill a tenure track position in interdisciplinary STEM-related natural science education, at the advanced assistant or associate professor level, beginning in Fall 2014.  The Haddix Community Chair in Science will provide leadership and expertise in STEM education within the candidate’s disciplinary area of expertise. In addition, the successful candidate will serve as an interdisciplinary resource promoting STEM education across the natural sciences, will collaborate with other STEM chairs, and will work closely with education faculty to address critical matters of K-12 STEM education in metropolitan Omaha. The Physics Department at UW-Stout provides service to majors and programs primarily in the College of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be expected to teach physics and to participate in the teaching of non-majors science courses. Preference will be given to candidates who can also teach other areas of science and math. Other responsibilities include developing an externally-funded research program involving significant participation of undergraduate students, professional activity, and service to both the University and community. Current research areas of emphasis at JCSU include bioinformatics, biotechnology, cyber security, robotics, and renewable energy. The faculty member will be required to evaluate and use current technology in courses and to maintain a positive educational relationship with students and colleagues. Other duties include academic advising, curriculum development, and committee service and performing other duties required to meet organizational needs.

Qualifications: Candidates must possess an earned doctorate in physics or a related science with documented proof of expertise. Course development and curriculum design experience as well as evidence of a commitment to working with under-prepared students are also desirable.
