TT at Mount Allison University

The Physics Department at Mount Allison University invites applications for a tenure-track position, with primary responsibilities for teaching and research in the area of astronomy. Applicants must possess a Ph.D. in astronomy, astrophysics, or a closely related area, and have a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching and research. The successful candidate will teach courses in our undergraduate program in the areas of astronomy, astrophysics, and general physics. The successful candidate will have a rigorous research program capable of both attracting external funding and involving undergraduate students. Mount Allison University is a highly rated, primarily undergraduate institution with an active and diverse Physics Department. Mount Allison's on-campus observatory offers opportunities for teaching, outreach, and some niche research. The ability to work in an observatory setting would be an asset. The appointment will be made at the rank of Assistant Professor and will commence on July 1, 2014, subject to budgetary approval.

The Physics Department at Eastern Illinois University seeks qualified candidates for a tenure track position at the Assistant Professor level starting fall semester 2014, subject to available funding. We seek an enthusiastic undergraduate teacher who will complement our Astronomy program. The qualified candidate must hold, at minimum, a PhD in Astronomy, Physics or a closely related field by the time of appointment, and show evidence of excellent teaching skills, with expressed willingness to involve undergraduate students in physics or astronomy related research. The successful candidate will promote undergraduate student learning through mentoring, provide upper and lower level teaching, help to deliver the Astronomy curriculum, and provide Gen Ed offerings. POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Compton Community College District is seeking an innovative individual whose focus is student learning for a full-time, tenure-track position in Astronomy and Physics for the El Camino College Compton Center. Course assignments meet general education requirements in science and include lower division courses in the Solar System, Stars and Galaxies, astronomy laboratory and array of physics courses from descriptive to calculus-based physics. Initial assignment will be in astronomy and descriptive physics. Duties associated with the position include participation in a variety of campus and divisional activities such as faculty meetings, committee work, student activities, office hours, student learning outcomes and assessment, curriculum/instructional development and program review. Contribute to the growth and development of both astronomy and physics at the Center. Assignment may include teaching courses during day and evening hours including weekends. Selected candidates will be invited for an interview, which will include a teaching demonstration on an assigned topic.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s in Physics AND Master’s degree in Astronomy or Astrophysics; OR
Bachelor’s in Astronomy AND Master’s degree in Physics; OR
The equivalent - Candidates not possessing the required qualifications as stated above, must complete the supplemental page of the district application and explain in detail how their qualifications are equivalent to those above. Candidates with no Astronomy degree must have completed at least 12 units of upper division and/or graduate Astronomy courses. OR
