The Department of Physics at Wright State University invites applications for a tenure track position in Physics Education Research at the rank of Assistant Professor. This search is part of a Cluster Hire in Science and Mathematics Education in the College of Science and Mathematics as part of a multi-year initiative to build a critical mass of expertise in innovative STEM education and pedagogical best practices for K-16. Our goals are to facilitate a multi-departmental effort to transform entry-level gateway courses in STEM undergraduate programs and to support a strong science and mathematics teacher education program (science-math.wright.edu/). We seek candidates with a Ph.D. in Physics, or a closely related field, or a Doctorate in Science Education with a M.S. degree in Physics, or the equivalent. Preferred qualifications include experience in discipline based education research, curricular reform/development, teacher preparation, dissemination of research in scholarly publications and conference presentations, assessment, and K-16 education. The successful candidate will support and reform entry-level gateway courses along with other undergraduate and graduate courses in the Physics Department. The candidate will be expected to establish and maintain an independent, extramurally funded program in education research. Scholarship expectations are stated in the departmental bylaws, which can be viewed at science-math.wright.edu/physics/about/bylaws. There is a possibility of a joint appointment in Teacher Education, in the College of Education and Human Services, depending on expertise and preference. Wright State enjoys a unique collaborative environment between the disciplines of science and education with multiple disciplinary-based science and math education faculty in each department in the College of Science and Mathematics. The Physics Department, with twelve faculty and one lecturer, strongly supports teaching innovations at all levels. Faculty benefit from our Center for Teaching and Learning, our Center for Science and Mathematics Education, our extensive professional development programs for in-service mathematics and science teachers at the middle- and high school level, and our association with the Dayton Regional STEM School that educates students in grades 6-12 in an innovative interdisciplinary, team-based paradigm.
