Job Description:
The Mathematics/Science Department is seeking a science faculty member for a full time, tenure track position in the life or physical science.
The new faculty member will take a leadership role in advancing course development and curriculum design within the science program as part of a larger initiative to increase math/science content knowledge of students. The successful candidate will have an interest in developing and growing a science program in accordance with the various majors offered at Wheelock College including prospective elementary and pre-elementary teachers. As such, the successful candidate will have additional responsibilities such as teaching inquiry-based laboratory courses related to their content area of expertise, advising students, grant writing, and participating in the administration of the Math/Science Department and the School of Arts and Sciences.

Requirements:
  • Doctorate in Science (e.g., Astronomy, Biology, Chemistry, Earth Science, Meteorology, Environmental Science)

Deep Springs College is seeking applicants for the Herbert Reich Chair in the Natural Sciences to begin teaching in the 2014-2015 academic year.
The position is one of three long-term faculty positions at Deep Springs College. Long-term faculty teach self-designed courses, both within their area of expertise and more broadly. Ideal candidates are more than specialists, and consider their discipline in the context of a liberal education. The teaching load is 2-2. The position is open to candidates at both the junior and senior levels and is renewable up to six years.
Faculty work closely with students both inside and outside the classroom, and must be committed not only to teaching, but to nurturing and participating in an intimate and vibrant intellectual community. Faculty live on campus on the main circle next to the dormitory, laboratory, and main building. The student-to-faculty ratio is about four to one; most classes have fewer than eight students.

Duties and Responsibilities: Primary duties include undergraduate teaching in physics/physical science (including laboratory) as well as academic advisement of undergraduate students. Additional duties include: university service such as committee work, support of university programs related to the Department of Natural Science, and assisting the department in continuous assessment and improvement of curriculum. Typical teaching load is 12-15 credit hours per semester. Typical courses include: general physical science, Earth & space science, algebra-based physics I & II and possibly other interdepartmental general education courses.
Qualifications: Masters degree required.  Ph.D. preferred.  The successful candidate should demonstrate effective communication and instructional skills appropriate for undergraduate students in introductory level science courses.  The successful candidate is expected to have an aptitude for working with other university faculty and area education stakeholders in service/outreach programs sponsored by the department.  While NWOSU is primarily a teaching institution, scholarly research endeavors will be encouraged and supported by the department to the extent possible.

JOB SUMMARY: This is a full-time position teaching in the physical science discipline - specifically physics and related physical sciences. Instructional assignments include, but are not limited to: College and Classical Physics, Applied Physics, and related physical science courses such as Exploring Physical Science, and Astronomy. This person may also teach courses in the math discipline. Teaching assignments may include days and evenings, and various sites and formats (face-to-face, on-line, ICN). A full-time teaching load of 15 credit hours per term is typical. Major responsibilities include developing, planning, and facilitating the learning process. Performs other duties as assigned. This individual will report to the Dean of Math, Natural and Social Sciences.

QUALIFICATIONS: A Master's Degree in Physics, Astronomy, Physics/Physical Science Education, or equivalent is required. College teaching experience required. A doctorate degree is a plus. Demonstrated strong interpersonal communication and presentation skills, both oral and written. Must have the ability to effectively communicate with students, colleagues, staff, and the public. Must have the ability to apply teaching skills, motivate and interest students, and be personable and professional. Must also demonstrate or document the ability to learn and apply new concepts and ideas to develop and deliver curriculum. An understanding of various learning styles and instructional modalities is a must. Ability to work with a culturally diverse student population, faculty, staff, and the general public. Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.

JOB DESCRIPTION - SCIENCE TEACHER

Tsinghua International School, located on the campus of Tsinghua University, is a grade 1-12 school with approximately 370 students providing a unique educational experience.  The school utilizes a progressive/inquiry based, American approach to instruction coupled with a decidedly Eastern influence.
Position Description
We are seeking a certified Physics teacher who understands and utilizes an Inquiry Based approach to teaching Science.  This individual must be willing to work cooperatively with other staff members as well as parents.  The instructor will teach a high school Physics class, two Grade 8 Physical Science classes and will develop a robotics program at the middle school level while teaching a STEM related Robotics elective course in the high school. While most responsibilities are delineated below the individual must be flexible and willing to lend a hand when and where needed.

Responsibilities
Provide a nurturing, caring and supportive environment for students.
Utilize inquiry methods of instructions at least 75% of the time while focusing instruction on the new Common Core Science Standards.
Teach a high school Physics elective course.  Students taking this course have completed a ninth grade inquiry based First Physics course.
Teach a middle school Grade 8 Physical Science course using the inquiry, hands on CPO science books and equipment/materials.
Teach a high school level LEGO robotics program with the involvement of other staff members.
Develop and work with Middle School students on a LEGO Robotics program that will be embedded in their course work and continued as an after school program.  The middle school component will also involve communication and planning with a middle school near Pittsburgh, PA.
Write and implement units of instruction that involve the Understanding by Design (backward design) format.
Reinforce Literacy and Mathematics skills while teaching science concepts.
Work with the ESL students within the regular class while maintaining an English only classroom and collaborating with the ESL teacher.
Maintain a strong positive and informative relationship with parents.
Prepare for and participate in all parent conferences.
Lead an after school robotics club for middle school students.
Participate actively in staff meetings and accreditation committee meetings some of which are held after school.
Actively engage in professional development during school sessions as well as during the normal school day.
Occasionally cover a class for a colleague.
Participate and/or lead school special events that may occur in the evenings and/or weekends.
Participate in the Science Fair and provide guidance to students as they prepare Science Fair projects.
Coordinate instruction with other departments when possible.
Qualifications
Native-level English Fluency
Bachelor’s degree in Physics or Mechanical Engineering
State or Provincial Certification as a Physics Teacher., generally an MED.
Minimum of two years teaching experience at the high school or middle school level.
Experience working in an Inquiry Based Science environment.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Salary and Benefits

Annual salary based on experience and ranges between $30,000 and $48,000 with an additional $600 for a Master's Degree.
$560 per month toward housing; $721 the second year.
$3,200 toward Health Insurance.
$80 per month added in to cover part of the taxes taken.
A flight to Beijing. Teachers are picked up at the Beijing airport by our staff and transported to the dorm where they may stay for up to 3 weeks without charge while looking for an apartment.
A flight home after school ends in June and after completing the terms of the contract.
School pays for the work visa and Heath Check.  The Health Check takes place in Beijing after arrival.
The school will provide an orientation to the school and Beijing for new employees.  The orientation will include assistance in finding a suitable apartment.

Position Definition:
Under general supervision of a Dean or Department Chair, plans, organizes, and coordinates laboratory activities for a science department which may include off campus sites; assists in department budget preparation and administration; orders, receives, stores, issues and inventories supplies and equipment; repairs, maintains, and calibrates laboratory equipment and instruments; coordinates and maintains the operation of science facilities which may include an audio tutorial center; may serve as lead worker for other classified staff; hires, supervises and directs student assistants; and performs related duties as assigned.

Distinguishing Characteristics
This classification of Science Laboratory Coordinator is distinguished from the Science Laboratory Technician I and II. A Science Laboratory Technician I and II performs a variety of laboratory set-up tasks, laboratory scheduling, ordering of supplies, and working with faculty to ensure that students using the lab have the materials and equipment needed to complete their experiments. A Science Laboratory Coordinator provides lead direction for the safe and efficient day-to-day operation of multiple science department’s laboratories in a variety of disciplines and coordinates a response to critical health/safety emergencies. The Science Laboratory Coordinator supervises the work of classified staff and student workers.

Examples of Duties/Essential Functions:
Duties/essential functions may include but are not limited to, the following: Coordinates the operation and maintenance of instructional labs; directs, or personally performs the timely preparation, set-up and issuing of materials, chemicals, equipment and lockers for use in student laboratory demonstrations, experiments, exercises and exams; performs complex skilled technical duties to assure efficient lab operations. Participates in the planning for implementation of lab exercises and experiments; implements new or modified laboratory policies and procedures as required; prepares special instructions for non-routine and complex assignments; adapts, tests, and maintains equipment, interface computer systems and apparatus in the laboratory; prepares, tests, adjusts, modifies, performs routine maintenance on and calibrates a variety of scientific instruments; trouble-shoots instrumentation problems and makes minor repairs or arranges for service repair. Trains the student assistants in the safe and proper use of laboratory equipment, and hazardous materials; develops, implements and maintains departmental policies and procedures to comply with federal, state, and local hazardous materials, health and safety, hazardous waste regulations (both biological and chemical) in addition to the District’s Environmental Health and Safety policies. Serves assigned SEMS (Standardized Emergency Management and Earthquake Response) role in emergencies. Procures supplies and equipment; researches products, prepares and analyzes bids, purchases required items, receives shipments and verifies contents, assembles, tests and installs new equipment and instruments; maintains, controls and stores a sufficient inventory of supplies and equipment in laboratory facilities including live and time sensitive materials. Monitors and controls expenditures through an on-line computing system to ensure compliance within established budget; prepares cost estimates for budget recommendation; submits justifications for udget items. Recommends environmental, health and safety-related improvements and modifications in laboratory procedures and operations; establishes and enforces laboratory safety procedures; routinely inspects and/or tests safety equipment and supplies; responds to laboratory emergencies including injuries and spills of hazardous materials. Aids in the security of laboratory equipment; may travel to various sites and vendors for supplies and equipment; maintains up-to-date knowledge on matters concerning and impacting college science department, hazardous materials management, health and safety, and hazardous waste management; use and maintenance of equipment and purchasing management. Hires, trains, supervises, evaluates and arranges pay for student employees and independent contractors; provides general support for the facility including observing and submitting work orders for problems related to leaks, hazards, lighting and overall appearance; may supervise or direct the work of classified staff. Performs related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualification
Education/Experience:
Equivalent to the completion of a BS degree in Biological Science or Chemistry with a minimum of 2 years of chemistry coursework from an accredited college. Experience: Equivalent to at least two (2) years full-time experience as a laboratory technician in a college, public health, hospital, clinical or research laboratory performing chemistry tests or biological tests, with experience in safety. License/Certification: A valid Class .C. California Driver.s License and acceptable driving record. Physical Requirements: Ability to lift and move 30 lbs. (Set up microscopes, move equipment and supplies).

Knowledge Of :
Methods, techniques and procedures used in the planning, development and delivery of a college science department laboratory program; subject matter and theoretical principles in chemistry or biology, equipment, materials, supplies, and laboratory methods, practices and techniques used in chemistry or biology; tools, materials and equipment used in the repair, calibration, and maintenance of technical laboratory equipment and instruments; principles, practices, and environmental health and safety regulations necessary to use and dispose of hazardous materials or work with laboratory equipment; functional computer skills; principles of record keeping, budget and revenue control; and, safe and defensive driving techniques.

Ability To:
Organize, coordinate, plan and prioritize laboratory activities; research, adapt, and apply laboratory methods, practices and techniques common to science; perform routine and analytical work needed to prepare reagents, solutions, equipment, and materials for laboratory assignments; correctly and efficiently set up lab equipment and materials used in exercises and experiments; understand the function of, operate, demonstrate, maintain, troubleshoot, repair and calibrate technical instruments; safely handle, store and dispose of hazardous materials; update knowledge in keeping with changing environmental health and safety regulations; generate and maintain accurate computerized records, databases, reports, and files; perform administrative work accurately and efficiently, including budget monitoring and assisting in budget preparation; interpret and apply policies, procedures, rules and regulations; work independently; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; hire, train, direct and evaluate the work of others; establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

• An educational background that includes chemistry courses the applicant has completed and chemistry degrees she or he has earned
• Experience in the development and delivery of laboratory programs, including reagents, supplies, and other materials that would be necessary to sustain a diverse college chemistry laboratory program.
• Experience in operating, maintaining, and repairing analytical instruments in a lab and stockroom.
• Experience in implementing policies and procedures to comply with environmental, health, and safety regulations.
• Experience hiring, training, and supervising employees, especially students, in a laboratory and stockroom setting.
• Ability to create databases to help control department budgets as well as chemical and supply inventories.

Arkansas State University-Beebe is seeking applicants for a nine-month, tenure-track eligible position beginning mid- August 2013. Rank will depend upon degree and teaching experience. The faculty member will be required to teach courses such as Physical Science, Earth Science and Introduction to Chemistry in addition to Environmental Science. Qualifications:

PhysTEC Teacher in Residence at University of Central Florida


General Info: The Department of Physics at University of Central Florida (UCF) invites
experienced high school physics teachers to apply for a Physics Teacher in Residence (TIR)
position for the 2013-14 academic year. The Department seeks outstanding teachers to serve
as local experts in our Physics Teacher Education Program. Teachers in closely related fields,
including middle school physical science, will also be considered.

The Department of Physics has 39 full-time faculty members and approximately 200 students in
our multi-track baccalaureate program. We also have over 100 graduate students, many of whom
serve as graduate teaching assistants. For additional information about the department, please

(Physics Teacher Education Coalition http://www.phystec.org/ ) grant.

Duties and Responsibilities: The TIR will bring a unique perspective and serve an integral role
as a voice of real world experience for the PhysTEC funded program to support the education of
future high school physics teachers. The TIR may co-instruct a Physics Pedagogy course, teach
introductory physics courses, mentor pre-service teachers and undergraduate learning assistants
and serve as liaison with the College of Education. The College of Education has over 200
faculty members, with four science educators who have earned degrees in the sciences. For more

Renewable Position in Geology and Physical Science at West Virginia University at Parkersburg

West Virginia University at Parkersburg is accepting applications and/or nominations for a fulltime, nine-month renewable term positions for Geology & Physical Science faculty.
West Virginia University at Parkersburg seeks applications and/or nominations for a nine-month, renewable term appointment for a Geology/Physical Science faculty member with the Science and Technology Division effective Fall 2013. The assignment will include a 15 load hour per semester teaching assignment to include courses in Physics, Chemistry, Geology, Astronomy, and Meteorology. All courses consist of lecture and laboratory components. Responsibilities will include academic advising, committee service, and professional development. Teaching assignments may include evenings, weekends, on-line, and off-campus locations. The Science and Technology Division values creativity and innovation and expects the selected candidate will participate actively in the college community.
REQUIREMENTS: A Master’s degree from a recognized, regionally accredited institution with a minimum of 15 semester hours of graduate credit in Geology or a related Physical Science discipline is required. The ability to teach Astronomy is considered a plus. Teaching experience is preferred, as well as an aptitude for using technology in instructional delivery and a willingness to deliver courses online. Demonstration of teaching effectiveness is part of the on-campus interview.
