Lab Manager, Edgewood College, WI

Lab Manager
DESCRIPTION OF JOB:

Edgewood College is seeking a Laboratory Manager for the Department of Chemistry, Geoscience, and Physics.

Successful candidates will have a demonstrated commitment to promoting diversity, inclusion, and multicultural competence in an educational and work environment and must be willing to contribute to the Colleges strategic plan of inclusion.

Responsibilities:

Among other duties, the Lab Managers responsibilities include:
overseeing laboratory and classroom demonstration preparations
serving as Chemical Hygiene Officer (CHO) for Edgewood College
hiring, training, and supervising student laboratory assistants
maintaining chemical and equipment inventories
managing the budget of the Chemistry, Geoscience, and Physics Department
collaborating with facilities and environmental health and safety for maintenance of fume hoods, air-handling systems, deionized water systems, and other building operations, as well as managing laboratory waste

JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Necessary Education or Work Experience:

Bachelors degree in chemistry or a related field; masters degree preferred
Chemical Hygiene Officer (National Registry of Certified Chemists) certification or eligibility to take the exam
Relevant laboratory experience (minimum 5 years)

Required Knowledge and Skills:

Laboratory safety as required by the OSHA Laboratory Standard
Ability to train and supervise student lab assistants
Proper handling and storage of hazardous chemicals and waste
Use and maintenance of laboratory equipment and instrumentation

Required Technology Skills:

Overall Proficient skill-level in Microsoft Office, which includes: Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook, and basic computer concepts
Knowledge of SharePoint is a plus
Willingness and ability to learn new software

Demonstrate multicultural competence the awareness, knowledge, and skills needed to work with others who are culturally different from self in meaningful, relevant, and productive ways.

INTRODUCTION:
The position is a full-time teaching assignment in Earth Sciences and Geology in the Division of Mathematics, Science and Engineering.  This program offers instruction in basic skills and transfer level collegiate geology/earth sciences and instructors are able to teach across a broad curriculum. 
REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  
• Most current Minimum Qualifications for Faculty in California Community Colleges (9th edition):
• • • • Master's in geology, geophysics, earth sciences, meteorology, oceanography, or paleontology OR Bachelor's in geology AND Master's in geography, physics, or geochemistry OR the equivalent.

• Academic Senate’s approved equivalency:  
• • • • No current equivalency (AP&P/Senate: July 2008) 
AND a sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic background of community college students (Assembly Bill 1725; Education Code 87360).
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
• Knowledge of and ability to introduce innovative methods and strategies, including PC supported computer technology, to instruction in earth sciences and geology.
• Previous teaching experience at a community college or university level.
• Evidence of and commitment to working as part of a team.
DUTIES:
• In addition to teaching 15 lecture hour equivalents per semester, full-time faculty will be responsible for five office hours per week and preparation time.
• Full-time faculty also participate in curricular planning, student learning outcome, program learning outcome, development, assessment, and implementation; evaluation of educational programs; and college governance contributory to the attainment of the colleges mission and strategic goals.
• Instructors may be assigned a combination of daytime, evening, Saturday, and off-campus classes, as the College is dedicated to the educational success of a diverse student body with diverse needs.
• Continued professional development through Staff Development or other sources is expected.
• Travel between District locations (Palmdale and Lancaster) is also expected.

Renewable Position in Geology and Physical Science at West Virginia University at Parkersburg

West Virginia University at Parkersburg is accepting applications and/or nominations for a fulltime, nine-month renewable term positions for Geology & Physical Science faculty.
West Virginia University at Parkersburg seeks applications and/or nominations for a nine-month, renewable term appointment for a Geology/Physical Science faculty member with the Science and Technology Division effective Fall 2013. The assignment will include a 15 load hour per semester teaching assignment to include courses in Physics, Chemistry, Geology, Astronomy, and Meteorology. All courses consist of lecture and laboratory components. Responsibilities will include academic advising, committee service, and professional development. Teaching assignments may include evenings, weekends, on-line, and off-campus locations. The Science and Technology Division values creativity and innovation and expects the selected candidate will participate actively in the college community.
REQUIREMENTS: A Master’s degree from a recognized, regionally accredited institution with a minimum of 15 semester hours of graduate credit in Geology or a related Physical Science discipline is required. The ability to teach Astronomy is considered a plus. Teaching experience is preferred, as well as an aptitude for using technology in instructional delivery and a willingness to deliver courses online. Demonstration of teaching effectiveness is part of the on-campus interview.

FT Physical sciences at Morton College IL

Job Summary:

The Full-Time Physical Sciences Faculty Member will teach physical sciences, geology, and related courses to a diverse student population. The candidate will participate on faculty committees and perform other duties related to teaching at a community college. The Full-Time Physical Sciences Faculty Member must stay abreast of trends in physical science pedagogy and community college instruction. The responsibilities and duties of the Full-Time Physical Sciences Faculty Member may change as the needs of the college arise.

Required Qualifications:

The successful candidate will possess a Master's degree in geology, physical sciences, or closely related field, in addition to possessing 18 graduate credit hours in geology. The candidate will have excellent analytical, interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, as well as advanced computer literacy.

Desirable Qualifications:

18 graduate hours in physics or closely related field and ability to teach astronomy courses. Post-master's level work physical sciences or closely related field.
