Deep Springs College is seeking applicants for the Herbert Reich Chair in the Natural Sciences to begin teaching in the 2014-2015 academic year.
The position is one of three long-term faculty positions at Deep Springs College. Long-term faculty teach self-designed courses, both within their area of expertise and more broadly. Ideal candidates are more than specialists, and consider their discipline in the context of a liberal education. The teaching load is 2-2. The position is open to candidates at both the junior and senior levels and is renewable up to six years.
Faculty work closely with students both inside and outside the classroom, and must be committed not only to teaching, but to nurturing and participating in an intimate and vibrant intellectual community. Faculty live on campus on the main circle next to the dormitory, laboratory, and main building. The student-to-faculty ratio is about four to one; most classes have fewer than eight students.
Deep Springs is committed whenever possible to providing institutional support for faculty to continue exploring their own research interests while resident in the valley. Applications are due November 1, 2013. EOE
