The building sector is emerging as a national and global priority. Buildings consume nearly half of all energy, equaling the transportation and industrial sectors combined. A critical consideration in this regard is the building facade, which impacts both appearance and performance like no other building system. Consequently, there is a lot of very important work for us, and we are looking for premier talent to join our Advanced Technology Studio and share in defining and implementing the future of the building skin.

We currently have a position for a Designer in our Advanced Technology Studio in Los Angeles. Working with leading design and build teams on prominent commercial building projects, this position involves the concept and design development of advanced building façade and enclosure solutions, including structural glass facades; cable trusses, cable nets, grid shells, exposed truss systems, and glass structures. Structural design is a key component of the work, but prominent considerations span the full gamut of aesthetic and performance issues, which include thermal, acoustical, energy and sustainability. Superior design sensibilities, creative problem-solving skills, work process, and 3D visualization techniques must be evidenced in a student or professional work portfolio
Responsibilities
Create innovative design solutions for building envelopes and advanced facades
Respond to architectural intent and specifications with a responsive base bid solution, and alternate original concepts
Compellingly communicate design in varied formats (sketches, 2D and 3D graphic layouts, narratives, simulations, animations, mockups, samples, posters, movies, etc…)
Operate in a team environment, facilitating a cross-disciplinary collaboration between internal and external groups, including sales, operations, engineering, manufacturing, field installation, vendors, material suppliers and fabricators
Work as a team to facilitate concept and design development and optimization
Analyze project requirements, documents and specifications when available, develop and propose design criteria if not
Assist in post-sale handoff and design development
Maintain an awareness of emergent façade technology and design trends
Requirements
Advanced degree in architecture, engineering or construction management, with focus in the building envelope
Familiarity with glass, advanced curtainwall systems and technology, and structural glass facades a plus
Understanding of design optimization
Background of research driven design investigation
