TT/T STEM Ed, University of Nebraska Omaha

The University of Nebraska at Omaha College of Arts & Sciences seeks to fill a tenure track position in interdisciplinary STEM-related natural science education, at the advanced assistant or associate professor level, beginning in Fall 2014.  The Haddix Community Chair in Science will provide leadership and expertise in STEM education within the candidate’s disciplinary area of expertise. In addition, the successful candidate will serve as an interdisciplinary resource promoting STEM education across the natural sciences, will collaborate with other STEM chairs, and will work closely with education faculty to address critical matters of K-12 STEM education in metropolitan Omaha. A competitive salary will be commensurate with qualifications and the position includes a chair’s stipend and program operating budget.
The Ph.D. or equivalent in a natural science discipline or in science education is required.  The successful candidate will have graduate-level preparation and teaching experience in a natural science discipline and a record of scholarship in discipline based education research.  Applicants should have a strong interest in increasing STEM participation by underrepresented groups and a commitment to teacher development and improvement in K-16 science education.   The successful candidate will be expected to work with current Community Chairs in mathematics, computer science, and STEM education.

Required Qualifications:

T in Science Education, UT San Antonio

The Department of Interdisciplinary Learning and Teaching in the College of Education and Human Development at the University of Texas at San Antonio (COEHD@UTSA.EDU), a recognized Hispanic-serving institution, invites applications for an Associate Professor of Curriculum and Instruction/Science Education beginning Fall 2014.

Responsibilities include: (a) teaching both graduate and undergraduate courses that are offered at the UTSA Main Campus, the UTSA Downtown Campus, and on public school campuses; (b) advising graduate students; (c) serving on thesis and doctoral committees; (d) conducting an active program of research; (e) obtaining external grant funding;  (f) providing service and leadership to department, college, university, and community constituencies in the area of Curriculum and Instruction/Science Education or a related area; and (g) active service and leadership in professional organizations at the local, state, and national/international levels.

Job Responsibilities
The Dean serves as the chief academic, administrative, and budgetary officer of the MNS School and reports directly to the Colleges Provost.  The MNS Dean:
  • Works with the Schools faculty, College administration, the deans of other Schools, and external partners to promote and catalyze improvements to the MNS Schools teaching/research capabilities, curriculum, unique and interdisciplinary programs, and facilities.
  • Serves as a model and mentor to both tenured and tenure-track faculty members.
  • Supervises all MNS faculty, Department Chairs and coordinators, and administrative staff.
  • Recommends hiring, reappointment, promotion and tenure, and other personnel actions as necessary.
  • Provides oversight and assistance during the hiring process of a high quality and diverse faculty and staff.
  • Promotes scholarly research activities of faculty and faculty-student collaborations.
  • Assists students with requests, exceptions, complaints, and the resolution of grievances.
  • Serves as an effective communicator and liaison to both internal and external constituencies, including fund-raising activities in conjunction with the Advancement office. 
  • Recommends budget to the Provost, and oversees the allocation and dispensation of School funds.
  • Represents the interests of the MNS faculty.
  • Teaches a course each semester in his/her discipline.
Minimum Qualifications
Earned doctorate by an accredited institution in one of the scientific disciplines represented by the MNS School with sufficient academic credentials to merit appointment to the rank of full professor.  The successful candidate will have a proven and effective track record at the level of department chair or above that demonstrates the candidates commitment to innovation and improvement.

    Faculty Position (Assistant or Associate) in STEM Education

    The Department of Curriculum and Instruction, College of Education and Human Development, University of Minnesota seeks two new faculty members at the assistant or associate rank to contribute to the research, teaching, and service in the integrated STEM Education program area.

    The new hires would join the newly formed STEM Education program area. The STEM Education track in the Education, Curriculum and Instruction Ph.D. program is an interdisciplinary program focusing on science education, mathematics education, and engineering education. Students entering our program choose an area of emphasis in one of the three specializations, while simultaneously participating in scholarly work that spans all areas of STEM education. This integrated program is designed to prepare scholars to conduct thoughtful disciplinary and interdisciplinary research in STEM education in order to assume roles as university faculty members, educational leaders, policy makers, and researchers. The STEM Education program area also includes M.Ed. initial licensure and professional studies programs in secondary science and secondary mathematics, in addition to providing subject-specific methods and content courses in science and mathematics for the elementary education licensure program.

    New STEM Education faculty members will be housed in the STEM Education Center (http://www.cehd.umn.edu/STEM/

STEM Education faculty are actively engaged in research, professional development, and outreach activities in partnership with local schools, STEM disciplinary faculty, the Minnesota Department of Education, as well as national and international collaborations.     Research: Maintain a strong record of scholarship with a general focus on STEM education and conduct research. Applicants should be committed to securing external funds in support of their scholarly inquiry.

    Teaching/Advising: Teach licensure, masters, and PhD courses. Advise and mentor MA and PhD candidates who specialize in STEM education, science education, mathematics education, or engineering education.

    Service: Make strong contributions to the ongoing activities of the STEM Education Program, the department, the STEM Education Center, the college, and the University. Participate in department, center, college, University, and other outreach and public engagement activities, including service on internal committees or task forces, and making presentations to external constituencies. Make strong contributions to on-going relationships with school-based partners. Participate in the activities of relevant professional organizations.

    Appointment Details:
    The individuals hired will be appointed into full-time, academic year (9-month) tenure-track or tenured positions at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor.     JOB MISSION

    The Eberly College of Arts and Sciences of West Virginia University seeks nominations and applications for the Eberly Professor of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) Education. The initiative includes the Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources, the Davis College of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Design, and the College of Education and Human Services; over 70 faculty members have outreach, research, and funding in STEM education, and each college has designated resources, including current faculty time and planned new hires to FERN.
    The appointment will be made at the full professor or advanced associate professor rank. A doctoral degree is required in a STEM or STEM-education related discipline, as well as a record of teaching and scholarship that would qualify the candidate for a tenured appointment in the home department as a full professor or advanced associate professor. Area of specialization is open, and the committee invites applications from persons with a track record in trans-disciplinary STEM education or broadening participation in STEM fields. Trans-disciplinary work blends approaches from multiple disciplines to address research questions. Applicants who have worked primarily within one discipline should provide evidence indicating potential for success at engaging with faculty in other disciplines. The position involves administrative leadership, teaching, and scholarship that will advance FERN’s research, education and outreach agenda. The percent of effort related to administration, teaching, and scholarship is negotiable and administrative support will be provided by an executive director to manage operations, as well as support staff.     TT Chair, Dept of Education/STEM Education Initiative, Belmont Univ TN (Science Education position announced too)

    Applications are being sought for the Education Department Chair in the College of Arts and Sciences at Belmont University. The Chair is charged to provide visionary leadership in developing, implementing, and evaluating the goals of the Department of Education consistent with the mission and vision of the University.
