Acquisitions Librarian - University of Hartford, West Hartford

Acquisitions Librarian - University of Hartford, West Hartford. Position Summary: The Acquisitions Librarian establishes guidelines for securing all library resources for the University Libraries through a variety of national and international vendors; acquires, processes, and maintains all library material orders and receipts for both University Libraries, Mortensen Library (general collection) and Allen Library (music & dance), including but not limited to monograph (paper and electronic), databases, standing orders, and serials; assumes responsibility for copy cataloging all new and donated monographs for Mortensen Library. Key Responsibilities: Acts as primary liaison to all library vendors and material selectors in facilitating the ordering of materials for the University Libraries. Assumes responsibility for securing and facilitating effective relations with vendors in order to obtain needed materials at optimal prices. Negotiates with vendors and consortia to provide the best possible discount rate. Ensures timely receipt of materials and proper invoicing. Manages invoicing activities with University Libraries administration for the payment of resources. Establishes, maintains and monitors all acquisitions funds and budgets and allocates appropriate funds to subject area selectors within the University Libraries. Adjusts and allots material budgets based on need and availability, ensuring prudent fiscal management at all times. Reviews, evaluates, and prices standing orders and electronic databases, as well as tracking subscriptions and renewals. Oversees subscriptions and tracks renewals for online databases and hardcopy standing orders to ensure timely and appropriate resources are made available to all patrons. Facilitates the management of all donated items, which includes receipt, acknowledgement, and the sorting of materials. Updates, maintains, and copy catalogs new and donated materials, including searching for bibliographic records and downloading them from online utilities, updating those utilities to accurately reflect the University Libraries’ inventory as needed. Initiates and supervises special projects as necessary and appropriate. Assists in the training and oversight of student library assistants in the processing of materials. Reviews and suggests improvements and upgrades to the ILS and the WALDO consortium. Represents the University Libraries on various internal and external committees. As a member of the Collection Development Committee, provides regular reports on expenditures. Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with faculty in the determination of curriculum needs and serves as a subject selector. Formal Education: This position requires a Master's Degree of Library Science from an ALA accredited institution (or recognized equivalent). Work Experience: 1 year to < 2 years. CSL, Division of Library Development is seeking an enthusiastic, innovative, social media savvy candidate with one year post-graduate professional experience in library services. As part of a team, the candidate will be able to strategically respond to the rapid growth in the availability of online/virtual services, web presence and social media and supporting the CT library community needs. Candidate will work cooperatively with the Division team to foster a community service environment that harnesses technology creatively to deliver information, resources and services. The preferred candidate will be familiar with professional library work including cataloging activities and workflows; coordination of circulation tasks; administrative tasks and is able to oversee the daily operations of a small library service center in the absence of the director and consultant. The candidate will also coordinate the continuing education calendar and related duties for the division. Project Coordinator for the Connecticut Digital Newspaper Project - Connecticut State Library, Hartford

Project Coordinator for the Connecticut Digital Newspaper Project - Connecticut State Library, Hartford. A project coordinator, to be based out of the Connecticut State Library, is sought to supervise the Connecticut Digital Newspaper Project a project funded by a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) to digitize 100,000 pages of microfilmed Connecticut newspapers. This is a 35 hour per week, contracted position, with modest travel required within Connecticut and annual trips to Washington D.C. Ideally, the start date is November 1, 2013 and the position will continue through September 30, 2015. Compensation will depend upon experience and level of involvement and compensation shall not exceed $140,000 over 22 months. Benefits are not included. Under the direction of the Project Co-Director (Jane F. Cullinane) the Project Coordinator will: Manage project staff and coordinate project workflow; Train and supervise Project Library Technical Assistant; Develop and document procedures and oversee selection, digitization, metadata capture, OCR, workflow control, quality control and related activities; Develop and maintain tracking system for microfilm and deliverables; Work with vendors to ensure high quality deliverables; Confirm bibliographic completeness and perform technical analysis of microfilm; Validate scanned images and metadata; Work with Project Cataloger and the Serials Librarian to maintain project database; Work with Project Co-Director as project spokesperson and participate in publicity efforts, such as the website, blogging and representing the project at meetings; Work with Project Co-Director to manage project budget; Deliver progress reports on specified semi-annual schedule; Other duties as assigned. Required Experience and Qualifications: Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited school or foreign equivalent; At least 3 years of relevant experience; Solid understanding of digitization and/or conversion projects; Experience with XML and standard metadata schemas (non-MARC and MARC) and principles governing standards in digital libraries; Experience with quality control of digital projects; Project management experience; Must have a valid driver’s license. Desirable Experience and Qualifications: Knowledge of microfilming procedures, especially newspaper microfilming; Knowledge of newspapers or serials, and ability to assess complex relationships between titles; Demonstrated ability to pay attention to detail; Equally important are strong interpersonal and oral and written communication skills, the ability to analyze and solve problems; the ability to work with a variety of people; flexibility and willingness to shift priorities according to current needs. Part Time Library Assistants - Trinity College Library, Hartford

Part Time Library Assistants - Trinity College Library, Hartford. We are seeking three part time library assistants to help cover evening and weekend library operations: The Evening Interlibrary Loan Assistant processes incoming and outgoing interlibrary loan requests. In the absence of the evening circulation assistant, may also occasionally oversee the Circulation desk and be responsible for closing the building. Work hours for this position are just for the academic year Sunday-Thursday 10pm-1am (15 hours per week) when classes are in session. Starting salary $14.21/hr depending on experience. The Evening Circulation Assistant oversees evening building operations with special focus on Library Circulation.
