Librarian - Housatonic Community College, Bridgeport

Librarian - Housatonic Community College, Bridgeport. Full-Time, 12-month, Tenure-Track. Anticipated Start Date: January 2014 Appointment contingent upon funding approval. Minimum Qualifications: Master’s degree in Library Science from an American Library Association accredited institution and a strong commitment to public services. Candidate must be able to demonstrate a wide range of ability/experience in the library areas of reference, circulation, and bibliographic instruction/informational literacy. Must be able to demonstrate excellent organizational skills; ability to work independently and ability to work in a team; strong commitment to student/public services; computer literacy and skill with job related technology; knowledge and use of electronic resources; effective oral, written, and online communications. Candidate must be self-motivated, well organized, able to handle multiple demands, and be flexible and creative. Responsibilities: Working under the direction of the Director of Library Services, the candidate performs a wide range of professional responsibilities in the library, which may include information literacy instruction; reference and circulation services (including supervision of student workers); technical services; acquisitions; collection development and developing strategies for expanding utilization of the collections. Position Focus: The School of Management (SOM) Librarian serves as liaison to the more than 100 faculty members, approximately 500 graduate students, and administrators at the Yale School of Management, and provides business reference services for the entire Yale community. Reporting to the Director of the Center for Science and Social Science Information, the SOM Librarian is a member of the Center for Science and Social Science Information (CSSSI) team and participates in Yale University Library programs and committees. Responsibilities include: providing research support for management and business to students and faculty via consultations, other reference service points, and instruction; outreach to the School of Management community; selecting management and business-related material in all formats; Identifying, recommending, and negotiating agreements for business and finance databases and data; managing a collection budget of over $500,000; web site development and maintenance; and providing general reference service at CSSSI and other campus locations. Electronic Resources Librarian - Yale University Library, New Haven. Position Focus: Reporting to the Chief Acquisitions Librarian, the Electronic Resources Librarian provides professional, technical, and fiscal expertise in the overall coordination and management of electronic resources. Manages the work of the Electronic Resources Group and supervises staff who perform a variety of activities related acquired electronic resources, including licensing, acquisition, management, maintenance, statistical analysis, troubleshooting, and preservation. Keeps abreast of and provides advice and guidance with relationship to trends in publishing, licensing, pricing practices, vendor technologies, and software developments as they relate to the electronic resources lifecycle, to colleagues and staff in Acquisitions, Collection Development, Cataloging & Metadata Services, Library IT, and units that provide user support services. Assesses and addresses electronic resources lifecycle management issues across the Library and recommends, develops, manages, and documents policies, procedures, documentation and best practices related to e-resources, using understanding of industry best practices and working collaboratively and collegially Library-wide with all acquisitions units, collection development staff, selectors, catalogers, and Library IT. Serves as a point of contact with vendors and with consortia for electronic resource acquisitions. Manages process change and workflow shifts based on organizational departmental changes. Collaborates with other acquisitions managers to develop and implement optimal electronic resources workflows. Coordinates renewal and annual review of e-resources. Oversees the development of an assessment program for data related to electronic resources and coordinates with the Library’s developing assessment program. Organizes, analyzes, and interprets usage data and assists selectors with the interpretation of data. Oversees digital preservation activities for acquired electronic resources (ingest of archival copies into Yale University Library’s Rescue Repository, LOCKSS box content management, etc.). Serves on and/or leads University Library committees related to electronic resources and discovery services. Participates in planning committees and task forces and engages in campus, regional, and national professional organizations and collaborative activities. Expected to be professionally active and represent the Library and the University in academic, scholarly, and professional community. Required Education and Experience: Master’s degree in Library Science from an American Library Association accredited Library school and two years of related experience. In selected instances, a post-graduate degree in a related discipline may be required or substituted for an MLS. Appointment to this rank is limited to three years at which time it is expected that the individual will develop necessary requirements to meet expectations of performance at the Librarian 3 level. Required Skills & Abilities: Appointment to Librarian 3 rank requires a minimum of five (5) years of professional experience and professional accomplishments appropriate to the rank. Librarian 4 rank requires a minimum of eight (8) years of relevant professional experience and accomplishments appropriate to the rank. Demonstrated knowledge and ability in supporting electronic resource lifecycle activities. Demonstrated ability in working with: complex electronic publishing environment and scholarly communications issues; negotiating licenses for electronic content; electronic resource management systems; integrated library systems; and metadata and digitization standards. Demonstrated ability to train and supervise staff. Ability to work collaboratively and independently with varied groups within a complex organization and rapidly changing, team environment. Evidence of high productivity and skill at problem solving when working independently or in groups. Excellent analytical and organizational skills, oral and written communication skills, and interpersonal and team collaboration skills. Preferred Education, Experience and Skills: A minimum of two (2) years of professional library experience supporting electronic resource lifecycle activities. Project management experience or training. Experience or training related to change management. Experience with an OpenURL resolver, Voyager ILS, Microsoft SharePoint, Microsoft Access, and/or Serials Solutions 360 services. Knowledge of SQL. Acquisitions Librarian - University of Hartford, West Hartford. Position Summary: The Acquisitions Librarian establishes guidelines for securing all library resources for the University Libraries through a variety of national and international vendors; acquires, processes, and maintains all library material orders and receipts for both University Libraries, Mortensen Library (general collection) and Allen Library (music & dance), including but not limited to monograph (paper and electronic), databases, standing orders, and serials; assumes responsibility for copy cataloging all new and donated monographs for Mortensen Library. Key Responsibilities: Acts as primary liaison to all library vendors and material selectors in facilitating the ordering of materials for the University Libraries. Assumes responsibility for securing and facilitating effective relations with vendors in order to obtain needed materials at optimal prices. Negotiates with vendors and consortia to provide the best possible discount rate. Ensures timely receipt of materials and proper invoicing. Manages invoicing activities with University Libraries administration for the payment of resources. Establishes, maintains and monitors all acquisitions funds and budgets and allocates appropriate funds to subject area selectors within the University Libraries. Adjusts and allots material budgets based on need and availability, ensuring prudent fiscal management at all times. Reviews, evaluates, and prices standing orders and electronic databases, as well as tracking subscriptions and renewals. Oversees subscriptions and tracks renewals for online databases and hardcopy standing orders to ensure timely and appropriate resources are made available to all patrons. Facilitates the management of all donated items, which includes receipt, acknowledgement, and the sorting of materials. Updates, maintains, and copy catalogs new and donated materials, including searching for bibliographic records and downloading them from online utilities, updating those utilities to accurately reflect the University Libraries’ inventory as needed. Initiates and supervises special projects as necessary and appropriate. Assists in the training and oversight of student library assistants in the processing of materials. Reviews and suggests improvements and upgrades to the ILS and the WALDO consortium. Represents the University Libraries on various internal and external committees. As a member of the Collection Development Committee, provides regular reports on expenditures. Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with faculty in the determination of curriculum needs and serves as a subject selector. Librarians - Fairfield University seeks energetic, self-motivated librarians with a strong public services commitment for the following shifts: Monday evenings 6:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. and Wednesday evenings 6:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. Some flexibility is desirable for working as a substitute for other evening/weekend reference staff. Librarian I - Hamden Public Library. Position definition: Performs professional library duties in the areas of reference services, technical services or children's services. Provides instruction in the use of electronic and print information sources in these areas and assists library patrons in the selection and use of library materials. Supervision Received: Works under the general direction of the immediate supervisor as determined by the Library Director, who assigns areas of responsibility, outlines policy and procedures, provides guidance as necessary and evaluates work in terms of accuracy and effectiveness. Works with independence in assigned areas. Makes regular reports to Supervisor, including statistical information for activity reports. Supervision Exercised: Provides general supervision to Library Technical Assistants, Library Clerks, Library Pages and volunteers. Examples of Essential Job Duties: Performs basic professional librarian duties, the specifics of which depend upon the unit to which the employee is assigned. Minimum Qualifications Required: The minimum qualifications required for this position is a Master’s Degree in Library Science from an accredited college or university and some working or internship experience in a public library. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Must have a working knowledge of library principles and practices. A working knowledge of the Dewey Decimal Classification System required. Must possess a working knowledge of and facility with current library-related technologies in a variety of platforms as well as the ability and willingness to embrace technological advances as they arise. Must be able to use the Town's email system. The ability to apply principles of library science to solve practical problems where only limited standardization exists is required. Must be able to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral and scheduled form. Must be able to work with patrons in a busy public service-oriented setting and have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the library staff.
