Director - Kent Memorial Library, Suffield

Director - Kent Memorial Library, Suffield. Rate of Pay: Competitive. Position Status: Regular FT. This position is responsible for the overseeing the library’s day-to-day operations, its staff and volunteers. The director’s duties will include: Develop organizational operating plan, budget, goals and procedures to assure quality patron service, staffing, library programs and services, community relations, optimum access to the library collection, and enlargement of the collection. Prepare and oversee department’s budget. Set goals and objectives for the Library, monitor progress and forecast trends, analyze needs of the community. Oversee all personnel matters; including but not limited to; interview, hire, schedule and terminate department employees. Oversees selection, weeding, and development of the library’s collection using output measures which support the mission and goals of the library. Provide monthly updates on activities, budget and grants to Commission. Procure grants for library services and capital improvements. Work with the Board of Commissioners and community advisors in crafting a Long-Range Strategic Plan for the Kent Memorial Library. Acts as liaison on fundraising campaigns with the Friends of the Kent Memorial Library and the Suffield Library Foundation. Direct the maintenance of library building and grounds, set priorities that include developing the Capital Budget. The Director will partner with City agencies to enhance the Library’s already strong commitment to cultural competency and diversity programming. Reference Services Internship Program - West Hartford Public Library

Reference Services Internship Program - West Hartford Public Library welcomes applications from MLS candidates for its internship program. The program has been designed to provide practical, on-the-job experience to individuals pursuing a career in reference service. Applicants must have completed at least four graduate level library science courses before the start date of their internship including a reference services course. The successful applicant will be paid a stipend of $4375 for 250 hours of work over approximately 5 months starting in January. The intern will have the opportunity to shadow librarians at a fast-paced reference desk and will assist with the implementation of a special project focusing on Collection Management Technology. In addition, the intern will help with other departmental projects such as collection and website development, digitization projects, subject bibliographies, and other projects as assigned. Although the intern will work primarily in the Adult Division of the Noah Webster Library located at 20 South Main Street, s/he will do a rotation in each of the library’s two branches as well as other library divisions to gain a broader understanding of public library operations. This internship program is funded through the generous support of the West Hartford Public Library Foundation’s Thomas F. Kilfoil Fund. Eligibility and requirements: Enrollment in a Master of Library Science Program. Applicants must have completed at least four courses including a reference services course before the start date of the internship. Applicants must be eligible to work in the U.S. The stipend is provided by the West Hartford Public Library Foundation and will be administered by the school in which the student is enrolled. Schedule is flexible but may include some weekday, evening, and weekend hours. Candidate must have reliable transportation. Young Adult Librarian - New Canaan Library

Young Adult Librarian - New Canaan Library. The young adult librarian is passionate about connecting and building relationships with adolescents in order to spark curiosity, fuel discussion and enrich lives through the collections, services and programs of the library. This is a permanent, full time position with one weekend day and one evening per week serving the youth (13-18) of our community. The position reports to the executive director and is a member of the leadership team. New Canaan Library serves a community of 20,000 about 1 hour from NYC in Fairfield County Connecticut. Role Purpose: This position is responsible for the planning, delivery and evaluation of programs and services that meet the expressed and anticipated needs of our young adult community. Responsibilities: Actively participate in long range strategic planning for all of library as well as youth area; Advocate for youth in the library; Develop and grow an active teen advisory group; Create and contribute to services, programs and collections that attract an increasing number of targeted clientele (13-18 year olds); Collaborate with colleagues in the Children’s and Adult services teams; Feed in to collection manager to develop the YA collections; Seek out and form partnerships with other relevant organizations in the local community; Maintain the teen area of library website; Develop a productive relationship with the local school librarians; Set goals, measure impact, for long term programming and services; Provide information and readers advisory to target group; Coordinate any volunteers in the YA area; Lead and participate in project teems; Develop and maintain clear documentation for all programs and services; Meet negotiated timelines and deadlines; Create collateral to promote programs and services using relevant tools.
