Supervisory experience is helpful as you could, in the absence of the Branch Reference Supervisor, work on scheduling reference desk staff and assigning work to part-time staff. Strong customer services skills are required as well as a comfort with technology such as the operation of workstations, e-readers, scanners, printers etc. is required. In this position YOU will need to take the initiative, in consultation with the Supervisor, to help patrons with their needs. This job will also include fulfilling the needs of our homebound patrons; managing ILL requests and overseeing our museum pass collection. The work week is 35 hours/week with one evening and one Saturday a month required. You may also be in charge of some evening programs. As part of the Fairfield Public Library team, you may be required to attend meetings, work a shift or participate in workshops at our Main Library. Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science from an American Library Association accredited university with one-two years’ experience working as a professional librarian, preferably in adult reference services, including familiarity with technology and readers’ advisory is required. Branch Librarian - Plumb Memorial Library, Shelton. General Description: A very responsible administrative position involving the organization and management of a branch library. The position is responsible for a broad range of public library functions including: planning and implementing services, activities and the Branch budget; establishing and implementing goals and objectives; personnel management; collection development; overseeing the maintenance of the library facility. This work requires that the employee have considerable knowledge, skill, and ability in all phases of library work. Supervision Received: Works under the direction of the Library Director. Examples of Duties: Takes steps to ensure Branch users' needs are met. Surveys and analyzes user needs and interests. Plans and implements services and activities of the Branch Library. Qualifications: Master's degree in Library Science (MLS) from an ALA accredited college or university is required, with three years public Library experience, with at least two years in a supervisory capacity, or an equivalent combination of education and qualifying experience substituting on a year-to-year basis. Analyzes and identifies building and grounds needs and recommends improvements, repairs and additions as necessary to the Board of Trustees. Ensures clean, clear, safe and welcoming environment for staff and public in the building and on the grounds. Responds to building emergencies and takes appropriate action. General Statement of Duties: The Library Assistant performs many support activities involved in operating a library by assisting the professional librarians following established rules and procedures and policies.
