Librarian - Housatonic Community College, Bridgeport

Librarian - Housatonic Community College, Bridgeport. Full-Time, 12-month, Tenure-Track. Anticipated Start Date: January 2014 Appointment contingent upon funding approval. Minimum Qualifications: Master’s degree in Library Science from an American Library Association accredited institution and a strong commitment to public services. Candidate must be able to demonstrate a wide range of ability/experience in the library areas of reference, circulation, and bibliographic instruction/informational literacy. Must be able to demonstrate excellent organizational skills; ability to work independently and ability to work in a team; strong commitment to student/public services; computer literacy and skill with job related technology; knowledge and use of electronic resources; effective oral, written, and online communications. Candidate must be self-motivated, well organized, able to handle multiple demands, and be flexible and creative. Candidate must be able to work with a diverse population of students, faculty, staff, and community members. Preferred Qualifications: Applicants who do not meet the minimum qualifications as stated are encouraged to put in writing precisely how their background and experience have prepared them for the responsibilities of this position and by providing appropriate references. Exceptions to the degree requirements may be made for compelling reasons. Experience with developing and administering learning assessment tools, experience in an academic library and NEASC accreditation. Proficient in Microsoft Office suite and ability to conduct data analysis. Responsibilities: Working under the direction of the Director of Library Services, the candidate performs a wide range of professional responsibilities in the library, which may include information literacy instruction; reference and circulation services (including supervision of student workers); technical services; acquisitions; collection development and developing strategies for expanding utilization of the collections. Other duties may be assigned. This position requires working some evenings as assigned. Annual Salary: $59,471 approximate annual salary with full benefits package. Computer Department Clerk - Ferguson Library, Stamford. Part Time up to 20 hrs/week. Salary Range: Hourly rate of pay dependent on qualifications and experience. Job Description: The Computer Services Assistant primary function is to set up and monitor AV equipment used for library programs. The assistant will set up projectors and microphones and stay for the program to provide technical assistance. Additional duties involve providing general clerical assistance for the Computer Services department. Those duties consist primarily of scanning materials for inclusion on the library digital archives site; data entry; and assisting in maintaining materials on the shelves. Duties Include: 1. Setting up and storing audio visual and computer equipment used in library programs. 2. Troubleshooting audio visual equipment problems. 3. Providing general clerical assistance for the computer services department. Duties may include scanning documents and photos; entering data; tracking down materials on shelves. Qualiftcations: Familiarity with setting up microphones, projectors and sundry audio visual equipment; Attention to detail; High school diploma required, college preferred; A high degree of skill at learning and adapting to new or changed technologies; Ability to multi-task; Business operations experienced desirable; Meticulous attention to detail and proficiency with Word and Excel. Clerk II - North Haven Memorial Library has a 19hr/wk Clerk II position open in the Adult Circulation Department. The successful candidate should be able to perform a wide variety of library and clerical tasks. Librarian, Web Services (Librarian 2-4) - Yale University Cushing/Whitney Medical Library, New Haven. Position Focus: Reporting to the Head, Library Technology Services & Support, this position is responsible for developing, testing, implementing and maintaining Medical Library websites and other technology initiatives in support of the educational, research and clinical needs of Yale Schools of Medicine, Public Health, Nursing, the Yale-New Haven Hospital and other affiliated institutions of the Yale-New Haven Medical Center . The Web Services Librarian works closely with fellow Medical Library staff, others within the Medical Center community and the larger Yale Library to create the best digital environment for library users. Required Education, Skills and Experience: Master’s degree from an ALA- accredited library school, or equivalent combination of relevant advanced degree and experience. Experience working collegially, collaboratively, and independently with varied groups, within and across a complex organization and a rapidly changing, team environment; experience in the creation and development of large and complex websites. Demonstrated ability working with: Drupal; best practices/standards in web design, development and content administration; HTML, CSS JavaScript, PHP, usability and accessibility is required; Ruby, Python, and/or Java is preferred. Demonstrated excellent project management, systems documentation, and written and oral communication skills. Demonstrated ability using graphic design tools (e.g., Photoshop, Fireworks or similar), and demonstrated familiarity with diverse metadata formats (e.g. MARC, MODS, Dublin Core), and institutional repositories. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, to solve problems creatively, and to effectively build partnerships and promote the benefits of change in an academic culture that often values ambiguity, diversity of opinion and historic precedent.
