Lab Manager, Edgewood College, WI

Lab Manager
DESCRIPTION OF JOB:

Edgewood College is seeking a Laboratory Manager for the Department of Chemistry, Geoscience, and Physics.

Responsibilities:

Among other duties, the Lab Managers responsibilities include:
overseeing laboratory and classroom demonstration preparations
serving as Chemical Hygiene Officer (CHO) for Edgewood College
hiring, training, and supervising student laboratory assistants
maintaining chemical and equipment inventories
managing the budget of the Chemistry, Geoscience, and Physics Department
collaborating with facilities and environmental health and safety for maintenance of fume hoods, air-handling systems, deionized water systems, and other building operations, as well as managing laboratory waste

JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Necessary Education or Work Experience:

Bachelors degree in chemistry or a related field; masters degree preferred
Chemical Hygiene Officer (National Registry of Certified Chemists) certification or eligibility to take the exam
Relevant laboratory experience (minimum 5 years)

Required Knowledge and Skills:

Laboratory safety as required by the OSHA Laboratory Standard
Ability to train and supervise student lab assistants
Proper handling and storage of hazardous chemicals and waste
Use and maintenance of laboratory equipment and instrumentation

Required Technology Skills:

Overall Proficient skill-level in Microsoft Office, which includes: Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook, and basic computer concepts
Knowledge of SharePoint is a plus
Willingness and ability to learn new software

Demonstrate multicultural competence the awareness, knowledge, and skills needed to work with others who are culturally different from self in meaningful, relevant, and productive ways.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The Science Faculty member will be responsible for, but not limited to:
Teaching Chemistry and/or Physics core and elective courses
Guiding and tutoring students outside of class
Guiding student inquiry projects
Participating in the team’s curriculum and assessment development in science
Participating in all faculty meetings, faculty development programs and community development days.
Participating in the non-teaching activities that support the science program
Assisting in the development of program
Other duties as assigned
Required Skills and Experience:
A minimum of a Masters degree in Chemistry, Physics, or related field
An exemplary teaching record
Effective communication with students, staff, and parents
Active participation in a collaborative team environment
Engagement in reflective professional practice
Highly motivated, results-oriented individual with significant experience in teaching

Salary and Benefits:
Salary and benefits are commensurate with training and experience expected at this level of employment. Duties and Responsibilities:
Faculty members' responsibilities shall be teaching courses as assigned, student advisement, assistance with registration, involvement in student-related activities, and professional development activities. Faculty may be required to teach evenings and weekends as well as online and dual enrollment courses.

Qualification Requirements:
Candidates should possess a Master's degree with a minimum of 18 graduate hours in Chemistry or Physics. Experience teaching in higher education particularly at the community college level is preferred. Experience with BlackBoard and service learning is a plus.

1-yr FT Instructor Chem/Phys at Mansfield University, PA

The mission of the Chemistry & Physics Department is to offer a quality liberal arts educational experience. The department offers modern facilities and instrumentation. The entire Chemistry & Physics curriculum is designed to give students a sound and broad-based background in their discipline.

Responsibilities
This position is a one-year full-time temporary position for the 2013/2014 academic year. Teaching responsibilities include, but may not be limited to: Physics I & II (lecture, lab, and recitation), Physical Science I & II (lecture and lab). The successful applicant will be expected to conduct themselves in a professional manner, assist in departmental assessment, and maintain a minimum of five hours office hours per week.

Qualifications
Minimum requirements: Master's degree in Physics with a minimum of one year college teaching experience and completion of a successful interview which will include a teaching demonstration of relevant knowledge and skills. Additional qualifications: Ability to effectively communicate subject material; ability to adapt to changing technologies that support teaching and learning; excellent communication skills; and demonstration, through past accomplishments and behaviors, of the ability to support Mansfield University's principles and values of Character, Scholarship, Culture, Service (http://www1.mansfield.edu/mansfield-creed) and the University's strong student-centered vision and mission.
