Twycross Zoo - East Midland Zoological Society Limited, is the World Primate Centre.  The Zoo has a comprehensive collection of primate species, together with other mammals, birds and reptiles.

With over 850 animals, the Zoo has exciting plans to further its work in the conservation of endangered species and is striving to achieve the best in animal welfare, research, conservation and education.

We have more to do and as the Zoo develops we are looking for dynamic, knowledgeable individuals to help lead the teams forward.

We currently have a vacancy for a Deputy Section Head on the Birds and Tropical section. The section manages a range of birds including hornbills, flamingos, penguins and parrots and a range of reptiles and small mammals.  This is a key role which will involve working on the section, covering all areas of animal husbandry, supervising and training staff.

We are seeking a high performing individual with a proven track record in zoo animal management. You will have a minimum of 5 years’ experience as a keeper and demonstrate a substantial working knowledge of the natural history and management of key species.  You must be committed to continued professional development of yourself and other staff.  Supervisory experience as well as an animal-related qualification, such as the BIAZA approved ANCMZA or DZMAA, would be advantageous. 

The role is full time, including weekend duties on a rota system. Salary is paid monthly and we provide uniform, 31 days holiday per annum, 5% employer’s pension contribution (after qualifying period).

Twycross Zoo – East Midland Zoological Society (TZEMS), the World Primate Centre, holds a large variety of primates - every species of great ape (gorilla, chimpanzee, bonobo, orang-utan) plus a range of other primates including gibbons, lemurs, callitrichids, cebids and guenons to name a few!  We have impressive breeding records for many of these species and recent changes to husbandry practices has enabled more natural groupings and enclosure modifications. We have more to do!

We are going through an exciting period of change as this zoo develops and so are looking for dynamic, knowledgeable individuals to help lead the teams forward.

DEPUTY HEAD OF SECTION

(African Elephants)

 

 Port Lympne Wild Animal Park has a vacancy for an experienced Elephant Keeper capable of taking on the responsibilities and duties that the role of Deputy Head of Section demands. 

 
Applicants must have gained experience in all aspects of elephant husbandry and have gained significant experience working with captive elephants.
 
You will need excellent written and oral communications skills, team leadership skills and the ability to motivate and develop the performance of section staff. Strong organisational and time management skills coupled with the ability to effectively manage the working time of keepers on the section is essential as is a valid manual driving licence.   
 
You will be expected to make appropriate short-term husbandry decisions regarding the feeding, movement and treatment of elephants; assist the Section Manager to maintain the sections records and paperwork; carry out risk assessments; and run the section in the absence of the Section Manager.
 
Ideally you will posses or be willing to obtain a recognised zoo qualification, be comfortable giving talks to the public and have the confidence to represent the company in the media.

Twycross Zoo – East Midland Zoological Society (TZEMS), the World Primate Centre, has over 1,000 animals and is one of the most comprehensive collections of primate species and subspecies in the western world. We have exciting plans for developing the Zoo further, continuing our work in conservation of endangered species and providing the very best environment that we can.



We currently have a vacancy for a Deputy Section Head on the Birds and Tropical House section. The section manages our large bird collection and mixed species Tropical House.  This is a key role which involves working on the section, covering all areas of animal husbandry, supervising and training staff, and deputising in the Section Head’s absence.



We are seeking a high performing individual with a proven track record in zoo animal management.  You will have a minimum of 5 years’ experience as a zoo based bird keeper and demonstrate a substantial working knowledge of the natural history and management of birds. We are looking for an applicant with experience of incubation and rearing of birds.  You must be committed to continued professional development of yourself and other staff.  Supervisory experience as well as an animal-related qualification, such as the BIAZA approved ANCMZA or DZMAA, would be advantageous.
