The Royal Zoological Society of Scotland (RZSS), a charity founded in 1909, owns and manages Edinburgh Zoo and the Highland Wildlife Park.  The Zoo is the second most popular paying visitor attraction in Scotland, offering an excellent day out to more than 600,000 visitors annually, and has an international reputation for its very active conservation and education programmes.

A vacancy has arisen for an Animal Presenter to work within the Living Collections Department. The role will involve delivery of all aspects of Keeper Experience packages, working within the animal presentations team.  The successful candidate will be required to deliver the Keeper Experience program to a high standard, meeting the needs of the zoo visitors and ensuring high animal welfare.  They will also contribute to the development of the Society in achieving its Mission and Aims.

To operate effectively in this role, it is desirable if you hold the Diploma in the Management of Zoo and Aquarium Animals or equivalent qualification or experience at SVQ 3 or equivalent level. Practical experience in a zoo or animal-related environment is essential and experience of working with a range of animal taxon groups desirable. You must also have up-to-date basic knowledge and understanding of zoo legislation and best practice, along with a sound basis of practical knowledge and skills about good animal management including dietary knowledge. Proven success in animal training or an appropriate qualification in the use of positive reinforcement training is desirable.

You will be an excellent communicator, with proven presentation skills. You will be comfortable working as part of a team and will build strong relationships across the organisation. Customer service will be key to this role and you must have an excellent understanding of the principals involved and how to interact with the public to ensure a memorable experience.

This is a part-time position working 22.5 hrs per week.  The successful candidate must be able to work weekends.  Salary is dependent on experience (£13,500 -17,500 per annum pro-rated)

Kent based Howletts and Port Lympne Wild Animal Parks are part of The Aspinall Foundation, a registered charity that is actively involved with several projects incorporating a diverse range of conservation activities and overseas projects in Central Africa, Indonesia and Madagascar. Our main spheres of conservation-based activity include captive breeding, education, ecosystem management, local community education projects, capacity building, habitat surveys and the rehabilitation of confiscated wild animals.

Howletts Wild Animal Park, situated near Canterbury in Kent, is home to the largest breeding herd of African Elephants in the UK with 21 births since 1982. We are currently recruiting for the full time role of Elephant Keeper to join our existing team of 5 staff.  The ideal candidate will have experience gained in a mainstream zoological collection, an awareness of current conservation issues and a passion for animal welfare with an open minded approach to elephant management.

This is a physically demanding position so candidates must be physically fit. A full valid driving licence is essential to the role. Ideally you will posses experience of driving farm machinery and basic maintenance skills. Holding a recognised Zoo Animal Management qualification, being comfortable giving talks to the public and having the confidence to represent the company in the media would be an advantage. 

Working 5 days a week, including weekends and bank holidays, the successful candidate will have a genuinely flexible approach to working hours. Additional employee benefits include either the provision of single accommodation or of a living out allowance and length of service rewards including membership of the company health plan and additional holiday entitlements.

LONG TERM VOLUNTEERING WORK PLACEMENT (6-12MONTHS) 
Unpaid x 1 – Education Assistant, (IT Literate)

This is an exciting new project that the Five Sister’s Zoo is offering, internal training shall be provided.

We are ideally looking for you to be able to volunteer 4 days out of 7 - (hours are from 8am-4.30pm)

We are seeking x1 bright, bubbly, conscientious, enthusiastic & flexible individual, who are passionate about their work, polite, who can communicate effectively with all levels of staff, volunteers & members of the general public

  • Work directly under the Head of Education

  • The ideal candidate should be proactive & able to use their own initiative

  • Provide formal and informal interpretive educational programs for visitors

  • Be able to provide references that cover the last two years

  • Be a member of the PVG Scheme would be advantageous

  • A trial working day is required prior to applicant acceptance into the program. This assures that the internship activities are understood by the selectee and will meet their educational goals


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Preference will be given to graduate students pursuing a career in a related field

  • Strong communication, IT skills

  • You should work well with daily duties given to you and have an interest in the Education Sector

  • Ability to work in a team environment with staff, other interns and volunteers

  • Preference will be given to graduate students pursuing a career in a related field
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment with staff, other interns and volunteers
  • Must enjoy working outdoors in all weather conditions, be physically fit and be able to lift at least 50 pounds

General Information:

Al Wabra Wildlife Preservation (AWWP) is located near Al Shahaniya in the State of Qatar and is a private breeding centre. AWWP houses approx. 2000 animals of 90 different species, many of them critically endangered. Most of the species are present in large populations and some are only managed at AWWP. An international team of veterinarians, curators and keepers run the preservation.

This position combines the following roles:

-        Full responsibility for the overall management and future development of AWWP, in coordination with the General Management.
-        Liaise closely with the other divisions working under directive of the General Management.
-        Preparation and supervision of new plans and conservation projects at AWWP in consultation with the respective departments and responsible staff.
-        Represent AWWP locally and internationally at conferences and meetings.
-        Coordinate scientific research and publications within AWWP and with external researchers both in Qatar and international.
-        Facilitate the development of the education programme and public relations.
-        Other duties as directed by the General Management.

Person specifications:

Qualifications/ Experience (Required)        
-        Hold a university degree in a relevant field from an accredited university.
-        Have a minimum of 7 years’ experience in a zoological institution in a managerial position, preferably in an AZA or EAZA accredited organization.
-        Proven track record of managing and developing staff.
-        Exceptional inter-personal and leadership skills
-        Excellent communication skills in written and oral English, including scientific English.
-        PC literate with knowledge of specialist software used in administrations of zoological collections
-        Willing to work long and flexible hours in a challenging environment.
-        Hold a valid driving license
-        Develop zoo budgets and oversee their implementation.

Qualification / Experience (Desirable)
-        A postgraduate degree in a zoological related field is highly desirable.
-        Having worked in different zoological collections, preferably in different countries (especially in the Middle East) are beneficial.
-        Understanding of enclosure design and environmental enrichment
-        Previous history of Living abroad
-        Proven track record in scientific research and having published in peer-reviewed journals on zoo-related topics


Salary is negotiable, depending on experience and qualifications. Initial 2 year contract with a 3 month probation period. Working 6 days a week, 1 month paid holiday, one paid return economy ticket to home airport including partner and two children, if applicable, annually, on-site accommodation, car & family government health care.

Brights Zoo is looking to add an experienced full time keeper to our keeper staff.


Requirements:
Must have at least 3 years experience in an AZA facility.

Description:
We are looking to add an experienced keeper to our staff that has a good deal of knowledge.   Our staff works with a large variety of animals (hoof stock, swine, birds, reptiles, primates).    This is for a full time keeper position.    Brights Zoo is located in Limestone, TN (in between Greeneville, TN and Johnson City, TN.   We are about an hour and 20 minutes east of Knoxville, TN.
