The Royal Zoological Society of Scotland (RZSS), a charity founded in 1909, owns and manages Edinburgh Zoo and the Highland Wildlife Park.  The Zoo is the second most popular paying visitor attraction in Scotland, offering an excellent day out to more than 600,000 visitors annually, and has an international reputation for its very active conservation and education programmes.

A vacancy has arisen for an Animal Presenter to work within the Living Collections Department. The role will involve delivery of all aspects of Keeper Experience packages, working within the animal presentations team.  The successful candidate will be required to deliver the Keeper Experience program to a high standard, meeting the needs of the zoo visitors and ensuring high animal welfare.  They will also contribute to the development of the Society in achieving its Mission and Aims.

To operate effectively in this role, it is desirable if you hold the Diploma in the Management of Zoo and Aquarium Animals or equivalent qualification or experience at SVQ 3 or equivalent level. Practical experience in a zoo or animal-related environment is essential and experience of working with a range of animal taxon groups desirable. You must also have up-to-date basic knowledge and understanding of zoo legislation and best practice, along with a sound basis of practical knowledge and skills about good animal management including dietary knowledge. Proven success in animal training or an appropriate qualification in the use of positive reinforcement training is desirable.

You will be an excellent communicator, with proven presentation skills. You will be comfortable working as part of a team and will build strong relationships across the organisation. Customer service will be key to this role and you must have an excellent understanding of the principals involved and how to interact with the public to ensure a memorable experience.

This is a part-time position working 22.5 hrs per week.  The successful candidate must be able to work weekends.  Salary is dependent on experience (£13,500 -17,500 per annum pro-rated)

Animal Presenter






‘ANIMAL PRESENTER’ (Full Time 18month Contract)

Dudley Zoological Gardens requires an outgoing person to join its growing Presentations Team to engage visitors about its animals, conservation and the natural world.

You will be presenting information in a lively & interesting way to large audiences and interacting with visitors during animal encounters. You will be involved in certain aspects of animal care and also handling animals.
Outreach work will be required.

The successful applicant will have excellent communication skills, the ability to work under pressure, alone or in a team, be confident in working with animals, be flexible, willing to learn new techniques and have the enthusiasm to share wildlife knowledge with others.

A level of animal/wildlife knowledge is preferable and speaking skills will be desirable. You will be required to work weekends and bank holidays as required. A clean driving licence is essential. This is initially an 18mth contract which may lead to a permanent position.

We have an exciting opportunity for an additional Animal Trainer and Presenter to join our team. This is a full time position (based on an average 40 hr week).

The successful candidate should possess and be able to demonstrate animal training experience relevant to the zoo’s Bird of Prey and Amazing Animal displays and be familiar with positive operant conditioning. In addition to this, and a key requirement for the role, are excellent communication and public presentation skills.

Working under the direction of the Head of Animal Training and Presentations, you will add an extra dimension to the already high standard of training and presentation achieved by the department. An animal care related qualification/s would be an advantage but more important is the desire to interact both formally and informally with our guests at every opportunity, providing an additional educational experience that enhances their visit.

Salary is dependent on experience.
