FT at John Brown U

John Brown University, private, evangelical, and Christian, seeks a full-time faculty member in Physics to begin August 1, 2014. Responsibilities include but are not limited to teaching undergraduate courses in Fundamentals of Physics (Algebra/Trig-based), General Physics (Calculus-based), and general science and/or mathematics courses for non-majors, as well as advising, scholarship, and service on university committees.  Specific teaching assignments will depend on the interests and expertise of the applicant, as well as the needs of the Division of Natural and Health Sciences.  There may be opportunities to involve undergraduate students in research projects.

The Department of Physics offers service courses for students majoring in Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Kinesiology, Mathematics, Mathematics Education, Engineering, and Construction Management.  It also contributes to the core curriculum, emphasizing fundamental principles that provide a strong basis for understanding the physical world.   The Physics Department is housed within the Division of Natural and Health Sciences in the William H. Bell Science Hall, which opened in 2003.  The NHS Division works in conjunction with the Education Department to offer a Bachelor of Science in Education with secondary certification in Mathematics.

                                                          
Doctorate in Physics preferred, masters required Effective teaching in higher or secondary education, evidence of scholarly potential, and a commitment to Christian higher education are essential.  The candidate should be able to clearly articulate the integration of the Christian faith with science and mathematics.

Description of Position:
Indiana Wesleyan is seeking an individual for a shared appointment in Mathematics and Physics. Rank will be based on the successful applicant’s qualifications. Preference will be given to candidates who have interest and ability in collaborative efforts and who are able to teach a flexible schedule with changing emphasis in either field. Applicants who have completed a Ph.D. in experimental physics by July, 2014, are desired; however, exceptional applicants with expertise in other areas of physics, biophysics, or bioengineering will be considered. TT Chair, Dept of Education/STEM Education Initiative, Belmont Univ TN (Science Education position announced too)

Applications are being sought for the Education Department Chair in the College of Arts and Sciences at Belmont University. The Chair is charged to provide visionary leadership in developing, implementing, and evaluating the goals of the Department of Education consistent with the mission and vision of the University. The College is pursuing a multi-pronged STEM Education Initiative involving the Department of Education, departments in the School of Sciences, and faculty in other areas in the College. Searches are also commencing for a Math Education faculty member and a Science Education faculty member to support this initiative. The STEM initiative is expected to lead to enrollment growth in Belmonts education programs, increased connections with area schools, and expanded community/industry linkages.

The new Education Department Chair, along with other duties, will be the leader of our undergraduate and graduate education programs, will manage our assessment/accreditation efforts, and will lead our STEM Education Initiative. The position is a 12-month, tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor. The position will be open until filled and review of applications will begin immediately.

Job responsibilities include overseeing all administrative, programmatic, and assessment/accreditation functions of the Department of Education and teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses in Education.
