The position directly supervises professionals, paraprofessionals and support positions including Librarians, Library Associates, Library Assistants, and others who provide services in such areas as reference, circulation, cataloging, readers’ advisory, materials acquisition, audio-visual media management, computer system management, distance learning, and general public service. Responsible for the essential areas of effective delivery of library services; development and organization of the library’s resources; evaluation, training, development and direction of library staff; budget, fiscal and facilities management, and library assessment and evaluation. Director - Kent Memorial Library, Suffield. Rate of Pay: Competitive. Position Status: Regular FT. This position is responsible for the overseeing the library’s day-to-day operations, its staff and volunteers. The director’s duties will include: Develop organizational operating plan, budget, goals and procedures to assure quality patron service, staffing, library programs and services, community relations, optimum access to the library collection, and enlargement of the collection. Prepare and oversee department’s budget. Set goals and objectives for the Library, monitor progress and forecast trends, analyze needs of the community. Oversee all personnel matters; including but not limited to; interview, hire, schedule and terminate department employees. Oversees selection, weeding, and development of the library’s collection using output measures which support the mission and goals of the library. Provide monthly updates on activities, budget and grants to Commission. Procure grants for library services and capital improvements. Work with the Board of Commissioners and community advisors in crafting a Long-Range Strategic Plan for the Kent Memorial Library. Acts as liaison on fundraising campaigns with the Friends of the Kent Memorial Library and the Suffield Library Foundation. Librarian III - Albany Public Library (NY). General Statement of Duties: Under the supervision of the Executive Director this position oversees all operations of three branch locations. Job Description: The responsibilities include supervision of librarians, library assistants and library clerks throughout multiple busy urban branch locations listed above. The Head of Branches is responsible for hiring, mentoring, coaching, training, evaluations, scheduling, payroll and customer service. The Head of Branches must insure library policies and procedures are followed as well as lead by example. At times the Head of Branches would also be responsible for working at the circulation and reference desk as needed. Other duties include the development and presentation of library programming and other duties as assigned. Additional Desired Skills and Abilities: In addition to meeting the minimum qualifications for the position, the ideal candidate should possess excellent communication skills; display an enthusiastic commitment to customer centered public library service; embrace the opportunity to work with a diverse customer base; demonstrate the ability to lead and manage the work of a team; and exhibit an innovative and creative approach to problem solving. The ideal candidate should be able to prioritize, multi-task and have a good sense of humor. Minimum Qualifications: Internal candidates must be currently classified as a Librarian III. Graduation from a registered college or university accredited by the American Library Association or registered by the NYS Education Department to grant degrees with a Master’s Degree* in Library Science, Information Services or equivalent and three (3) years of paid full-time professional library experience in a library of recognized standing, one (1) year of which must have been in an administrative** capacity over a complex operation. *Minimum qualifications are in accordance with New York State Education Department Division of Library Development. **Administrative capacity is defined as spending the entire workweek planning, organizing, budgeting/allocating funds, staffing and communicating. Evening & Weekend Access and Delivery Services Supervisor / Supervisor 2 - Yale University Harvey Cushing/John Hay Whitney Medical Library, New Haven. Schedule: Full-Time (37.5 hours per week); Sunday–Thursday, 2:00 pm – 10:30 pm; Occasional recess days and holidays required. Position Focus: Reporting to the Head of Access and Delivery Services for the Medical Library, this position provides direct oversight for the library’s evening and weekend access and delivery services. The Manager assists in planning and implementing new services, and supporting and improving existing services. Supervises and works closely with the entire Access and Delivery Services (ADS) Team and student assistants to provide users valuable services that support their information and research needs. Motivates and coaches staff to ensure excellent customer service, cultivates teamwork, and promotes a culture in which change is welcomed and supported. Responsible for a range of managerial duties relating to access and delivery services in the Medical Library. Principal Responsibilities: 1. Manages the daily work of the ADS team to ensure efficiency and effectiveness of access services operations, including reserves, document delivery, interlibrary loan and stacks maintenance operations, and all services provided at the circulation and information desks. 2. Supervises 3 FTE Clerical and Technical staff and 4 students. Hires, trains, coaches, and evaluates staff and student assistants. Motivates staff and is responsible for ensuring high quality public services and productivity. 3. Develops, recommends and participates in planning and implementation of new policies and innovative services, and interprets policies for staff. Writes documentation and revises the staff policies and procedures manual. 4. Responsible for process and workflow improvement, including investigating technologies to successfully accomplish the work of the department. Responsible for inventory control and trouble-shooting technical and software issues. As appropriate assists with relations and negotiations with other departments and external vendors. 5. Schedules staff hours. Ensures service desk coverage during holidays, recess periods, and occasions of inclement weather. 6. Ensures that the physical library is an inviting and welcoming space for visitors. Works with University Security to guarantee the safety of patrons, staff and collections, and ensures that proper security measures are followed. Works closely with Facilities when necessary to maintain a safe and functional environment in the evenings and weekend hours. 7. Oversees stacks maintenance and projects. 8. Advances the initiatives of university departments, including but not limited to maintaining databases for the Yale Center for Clinical Investigation and creating bibliographies with persistent URLs in support of the Internal Medicine Curriculum. 9. May also participate and coordinate the activities of other related services and operations in conjunction with other units such as the Library Shelving Facility and West Campus operations. 10. Required to work occasional holidays and recess days. 11. Maybe required to assist in disaster recovery efforts. 12. May be assigned to work at the West Campus Yale University located in West Haven, CT. Required Education and Experience: Bachelor’s Degree in related field and two years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Required Skills and Abilities: 1. Circulation Shelving Manager - Trinity College Library, Hartford. Coordinates library stacks maintenance activities. These include shelving, paging, collection shifts, and inventory control. Manages student assistants, assists library service desk operations, and maintains public equipment. Oversees general building operations during assigned evening and weekend hours. Closes the building at the end of the day by overseeing or performing the announcements, walkthroughs, and security checks to ensure the building is secure. Periodically walks through the building during the shift to observe the safety of our readers and collections and works with Campus Safety and other staff when problems arise.
