Kent based Howletts and Port Lympne Wild Animal Parks are part of The Aspinall Foundation, a registered charity that is actively involved with several projects incorporating a diverse range of conservation activities and overseas projects in Central Africa, Indonesia and Madagascar. Our main spheres of conservation-based activity include captive breeding, education, ecosystem management, local community education projects, capacity building, habitat surveys and the rehabilitation of confiscated wild animals.

Howletts Wild Animal Park, situated near Canterbury in Kent, is home to the largest breeding herd of African Elephants in the UK with 21 births since 1982. We are currently recruiting for the full time role of Elephant Keeper to join our existing team of 5 staff.  The ideal candidate will have experience gained in a mainstream zoological collection, an awareness of current conservation issues and a passion for animal welfare with an open minded approach to elephant management.

This is a physically demanding position so candidates must be physically fit. A full valid driving licence is essential to the role. Ideally you will posses experience of driving farm machinery and basic maintenance skills. Holding a recognised Zoo Animal Management qualification, being comfortable giving talks to the public and having the confidence to represent the company in the media would be an advantage. 

Working 5 days a week, including weekends and bank holidays, the successful candidate will have a genuinely flexible approach to working hours. Additional employee benefits include either the provision of single accommodation or of a living out allowance and length of service rewards including membership of the company health plan and additional holiday entitlements.

Permanent position
Salary Range - £17,500 - £17,850 per annum

Bristol Zoo Gardens has a vacancy for an Experienced/Senior Keeper working on the mammal section. This position is permanent working 80 hours per fortnight as part of the departmental 14 day rota, which will include weekends and bank holidays.

The successful applicant will be an experienced mammal keeper and will have at least three years experience of working with zoo animals. Having some practical knowledge of the husbandry of small nocturnal mammals will be an advantage.

The successful applicant will be educated to at least GCSE level, including English and a biological science, and hold the Diploma in the Management of Zoo and Aquarium Animals - DMZAA (previously known as ANCMZA) or equivalent. The ability to work within a team and having a general knowledge of the conservation and educational roles of zoos is also desirable.

AAP, Rescue Centre for Exotic Animals

The work and ideal of AAP is to improve, in a professional manner, the welfare of abused or neglected primates and small- to medium-sized exotic mammals from all over Europe. This is achieved by providing shelter to animals from the illegal trade, circuses, animal-testing laboratories or private individuals. For most animals we find suitable homes worldwide in reserves, zoos or in our own permanent shelter in the south of Spain.

AAP is also actively and strategically involved in animal welfare issues by influencing both Dutch and European policy- and decision-makers in this field and working together with professional groups at home and abroad. Furthermore, AAP is an international authoritative knowledge centre.

We employ about 70 paid staff and more than 100 volunteers. AAP is situated in the middle of a green area near Almere. There are few places where you can see the result of your efforts – each animal taken into our care is rehabilitated. AAP distinguishes itself by having an enormous passion and a professional, open culture. Our core values, accessibility, dedication and inventiveness form important guidelines.
For the Chimpanzee Complex of our Rescue and Rehabilitation Cluster we are looking for an enthusiastic
Experienced Caretaker Chimpanzees
(32 hours per week)
The Chimpanzee Complex consists of two departments:
  1. A permanent lifetime-care-centre for ex lab chimpanzees that are infected with HIV, SIV and Hepatitis C. These chimpanzees are not sick but potentially infectious and therefore require special care;
  2. A chimpanzee resocialisation unit, temporary intensive care where newly arrived chimpanzees will learn to live in a group again. When the chimpanzees live in stable social groups they will move to other permanent facilities. 
Your part As an Experienced Caretaker, you are responsible for the daily care for our chimpanzees. In practice your work will largely include cleaning, feeding, observation, behavioural enrichment and assisting in the rehabilitation of the animals. You will be working in a team of experienced caretakers according to fixed procedures and a hands-off protocol. You will be giving directions and guidance to a number of (foreign) volunteers. Your job will also include a number of administrative tasks. You’re part of the team, you work well with others and you’re flexible enough to work Saturdays or Sundays. The department’s team leader will give you direction.
Your experience Feeling for the goals of AAP * An accredited Animal Care qualification (minimum of 3 years) * minimum of 1 year experience in taking care of chimpanzees * in good physical shape * prepared to work during the weekend * able to work independently, but also possessing the necessary team spirit * prepared to share knowledge and information * good oral expressive ability in English * capable of working with relevant computer programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc).

We are offering you a very challenging job with a lot of responsibility in an open, professional and international organisation with animals and people at its heart, located in a natural environment. The commencing salary ranges between € 1.515,- and € 1.858,- gross per month (bases on 32 hrs) and depends on relevant work experience. Salary is expected to increase on an annual basis.

Port Lympne Wild Animal Park near Hythe, Kent is recruiting for an experienced

Animal Keeper whose time will be divided between various animal sections in the park.

 

  The position requires an enthusiastic, self motivated person with experience working within a mainstream wild animal collection. The successful applicant will be required to work with a range of animals including gorillas, tapirs, deer and antelope. Port Lympne Wild Animal Park, with its sister park Howletts, has the largest collection of gorillas in the world and runs two gorilla reintroduction projects in protected National Parks in West Africa.

 

This is a physically demanding position so candidates must be physically fit, self motivated and have a genuine interest in conservation and wildlife. A valid driving licence is essential and a firearms licence, animal related qualification or relevant experience would be advantageous.

 

This is a full time permanent position. Working 40 hours a week, five days out of seven 8.00am to 5.00pm possibly including weekends and bank holidays. On site accommodation may be available.

Port Lympne Wild Animal Park, situated in the south of Kent near Folkestone, holds the largest collection of black rhino outside of Africa. We have had excellent breeding success and are a very active part of the EEP reintroduction plan. So far eight rhino have returned to Africa accompanied by their keepers to help acclimatise them.

 We have an opportunity for an experienced, hardworking and dedicated keeper to work with a small team of enthusiastic, likeminded keepers on our rhino section, which also includes the park’s giraffe.

This is a very physical role and the successful applicant will be expected to undertake all duties on the section from food preparation and cleaning, to enclosure design, building and maintenance. Conservation education plays a big role in the park so there will be plenty of opportunities for hosting talks and displays to the public.

Experience working with rhinos and/or giraffe preferred but previous experience of exotic large mammal husbandry is essential. A full valid driving licence is needed and experience in driving tractors and Land Rovers is desirable. We are looking for an individual who is hardworking, passionate and committed, with knowledge of current conservation issues and willing to convey this to the public. You will also need a flexible approach to working hours and be able to demonstrate a safe and confident approach to the species on the section. Short listed candidates may be asked to spend a trial day on the section.   

Ideally you will have obtained an animal management qualification or equivalent but if not you must be willing to work towards obtaining a relevant qualification.

Working 40 hours a week, 5 days out of seven, 8.00am to 5.00pm

Wages according to experience as fits existing pay scale.

Experienced Bird Keeper





Paradise Wildlife Park is looking to recruit an experienced Bird Keeper to work on our Bird section. Applicants must have experience with the husbandry and management of a wide variety of species due to our current and expanding section.



The bird section is responsible for 2 free flight bird shows daily and so experience in presenting and delivering talks is important, as is experience or at least a working knowledge of positive reinforcement training.



 The ability to work as part of a team is essential as are excellent communication skills.



Applicants must be hard working, conscientious and uphold high standards of animal husbandry and welfare.



Applicants must be willing to assist with other areas of the park, including general maintenance and upkeep of public areas.



Flexibility in working hours is essential due to the nature of the job.

Award winning Blackpool Zoo is looking to fill a key position within its Animal Department.

Experienced Primate Keeper (Ref No- AD/PK/12)
Blackpool Zoo is looking for an experienced primate keeper to assist in the daily care and husbandry needs of their Primate Section. They will also help in developing and moving forward the section within the framework of the animal department's aims and objectives in a new and exciting period within Blackpool Zoo’s history. The section currently maintains over 20 species of primates including Red-fronted Lemur, King Colobus, Red Titi, Goeldi’s Monkey, Emperor Tamarin, Black Howler Monkey, L’Hoest’s Monkey, De Brazza Monkey, Pileated Gibbon, Bornean Orang-utan and Western Lowland Gorilla. You will need to be hard working, physically fit, enthusiastic and reliable. You should possess the Advanced National Certificate in the Management of zoo Animals or an equivalent and have a minimum of three years primate keeping experience. Some experience with great apes is essential.

We offer a competitive salary of £17,968.00 per anum, inclusion in the company’s pension scheme and the opportunity to further your career within the zoological world.
Subsidised single occupancy (on site) accommodation will be available with this post, if required.

Blackpool Zoo is ideally and conveniently located on the outskirts of the "UK most popular holiday resort".
