REGISTRAR (Maternity Leave)

BRISTOL ZOO GARDENS


Applications are invited for the position of Registrar (to cover maternity leave, approximately 6 – 8 months) at Bristol Zoo Gardens.
Main duties and responsibilities:
  • Manage the Animal Department records system, including data input into ZIMS from the keeper reports (electronic transfer)
  • Provide reports as requested
  • Train new users to access and enter ZIMS data and help roll out ZIMS use across the zoo
  • Provide support to users of the animal records system ZIMS in its use and in problem resolution
  • Manage all animal transfers  both imports and exports
  • Manage booking requests for the twice weekly vet clinics.
  • Input data into the MedARKS veterinary records system (and ZIMS in due course). 
  • Ensure that the Senior Curator is advised of any concerns or potential problems with regard to the data or to animal transfers.
  • Coordinate the Animal Dept Collection Plan spread sheet in conjunction with the Curators.
  • Provide administrative support for the Senior Curator.

Hours
37.5 hours Monday to Friday – within normal animal department hours
Very occasional weekend working may be necessary – time to be taken in lieu during the same month as working


The successful applicant will preferably have some working knowledge of animal records and transfers within the international zoo framework and should be educated to at least A level, with a degree in a biological science an advantage. They should be computer literate with a good working knowledge of Office and Windows and be able to learn new software quickly. This post would suit a highly organised and methodical individual who would enjoy using these skills to support Bristol Zoo.

Permanent position
Salary Range - £17,500 - £17,850 per annum

Bristol Zoo Gardens has a vacancy for an Experienced/Senior Keeper working on the mammal section. This position is permanent working 80 hours per fortnight as part of the departmental 14 day rota, which will include weekends and bank holidays.

The successful applicant will be an experienced mammal keeper and will have at least three years experience of working with zoo animals. Having some practical knowledge of the husbandry of small nocturnal mammals will be an advantage.

The successful applicant will be educated to at least GCSE level, including English and a biological science, and hold the Diploma in the Management of Zoo and Aquarium Animals - DMZAA (previously known as ANCMZA) or equivalent. The ability to work within a team and having a general knowledge of the conservation and educational roles of zoos is also desirable.

Bristol Zoo Gardens have a vacancy for an animal keeper in our Aquarium.  This is a permanent position working 80 hours per fortnight as part of the departmental 14 day rota which will include weekends and bank holidays.

The successful applicant will preferably have some experience of working in a zoo environment. Being part of a small team responsible for the Care and maintenance of 25 public displays along with a modern off show breeding and quarantine facility.  The successful applicant must have knowledge of aquatic life support systems and fish husbandry. Holding a minimum PADI rescue diver (or equivalent) qualification would also be an advantage, but not essential.

Applicants should be educated to at least GCSE level and to include English, maths and a biological science. Holding the Diploma in the Management of Zoo and Aquarium Animals – DMZAA (previously known as ANCMZA) would also be an advantage.  The successful applicant will be expected to study for this diploma if they do not already hold this qualification.

This is a full time, fixed term [maternity cover] position based on the Ectotherms Section and primarily working with the Invertebrates. The successful applicant will preferably have some experience of working in a zoo environment.   Some experience of aquatic systems would be an advantage although not essential.

A vacancy has arisen for a Presenter to join Bristol Zoo’s Presentations Team.

The successful applicant will have considerable experience in animal husbandry with some animal training and presentations skills.  The Presentations Section develops and delivers the animal demonstrations, husbanding and training the Section’s animals and advising the other animal sections on husbandry training.  Experience with seal husbandry would also be a great advantage.

This is a full time position working on average 37.5 hours per week as part of the section rota which will include weekends and bank holidays.  This position is fixed term until 26th March 2014.
