Senior Animal Keeper Vacancy on the Mammal Department

Minimum of four years zoo animal husbandry experience required. Experience with primates essential. Applicants holding the Diploma in the Management of Zoo & Aquarium Animals, (BIAZA / Sparsholt College) or other equivalent qualifications preferred. Full driving licence desirable.

The successful applicant will be expected to work on a 38 ¾ hour week roster with 2 days off per week (1 weekend off in 3). Starting salary according to experience.

Twycross Zoo – East Midland Zoological Society (TZEMS), the World Primate Centre, holds a large variety of primates - every type of great ape (gorilla, chimpanzee, bonobo, orang-utan) plus a range of other species. We have impressive breeding records for many of these species and recent changes to husbandry practices has enabled more natural groupings and enclosure modifications. We have more to do!

We are going through an exciting period of change as this zoo develops and so are looking for dynamic, knowledgeable individuals to help lead the teams forward.

We therefore have a vacancy for a Senior Keeper on the Great Apes section. The section manages all the great ape taxa.  This is a key role which will involve working on the section, covering all areas of animal husbandry including feeding, cleaning, training and record keeping; as well as interacting with the zoo visitors and assisting with the supervision and training of staff.

We are seeking an enthusiastic, high performing individual with a proven track record in zoo animal management. You will have a minimum of 4 years’ experience as a keeper and demonstrate a substantial working knowledge of the natural history and management of key species.  You must be a good team worker with a positive outlook and excellent communication skills and be committed to continued professional development of yourself and other staff.  Supervisory experience as well as an animal-related qualification, such as the BIAZA approved ANCMZA or DZMAA, would be advantageous. 

The role is full time, including weekend duties on a rota system. Salary is paid monthly. We provide uniform and 31 days holiday.

As an action oriented conservation charity, Marwell Wildlife’s desire is to connect people with nature. Through enthusing people about the wonders of the natural world we’re certain they’ll share our passion to conserve it. Our success relies on two key things. The impression we create through our 140 acre zoological park, Marwell Zoo, with its wide array of exotic and endangered species and the family of talented people we employ who share our passion and bring our vision to life.

We are currently recruiting for a Senior Animal Keeper to join our Bird Team. The position would suit a Keeper who has experience working with a variety of bird species including penguins and flamingos.

Roles and responsibilities will include supporting the Team Leader on your allocated section, ensuring high standards of animal husbandry are maintained at all times along with daily checks and record keeping.

Applicants will need to have previous experience of working with birds in a zoological collection, hold 5 GCSE’s or equivalent and a full driving licence valid for the UK. The DMZAA or equivalent qualification is also essential at Senior Keeper level.

The successful candidate will be able to work well as part of a team, have the ability to use their initiative, display interest and commitment to animal welfare and conservation, and must possess strong verbal communication skills, as talking to members of the public is an essential part of the role.

SENIOR ANIMAL DISPLAYS KEEPER

Colchester Zoo is currently looking to recruit an experienced keeper to join their Animal Displays Team. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to work with and train an exciting collection of birds and mammals and be part of continually developing and improving the daily displays.


The post requires the successful applicant to fly, train and care for a wide range of species including Eagles, Owls, Kestrels, Kites, Buzzards, Hawks, Falcons, Hornbills, Macaws, Raven, Guinea Fowl, Conures, Cockatoo, Coati and Skunks. They will be expected to take part in the daily educational animal presentations and will have the responsibility of being principle trainer for a number of animals. The successful applicant will need to be a highly motivated, hard working individual who has a good understanding of animal behaviour and previous experience training and working a variety of species. The ability to take part in public presentations is essential as well as exceptional animal husbandry skills, high standards of animal care and excellent skills in communication. Previous experience working with the above mentioned species is preferable however those candidates’s with any experience training animals will be considered.


Applicants must hold a qualification in the Zoo animal management certificate or equivalent and have a full valid driving licence.

We have exciting plans for developing the Zoo further, continuing our work in conservation of endangered species and providing the very best environment that we can.

We have more to do and as the Zoo develops we are looking for dynamic, knowledgeable individuals to help lead the teams forward.

We currently have a vacancy for a Senior Keeper on the Large Mammals section. The section manages Asian elephant, together with a range of ungulate and carnivore species including Amur leopard, snow leopard, meerkat, Bactrian camel and Kirk’s dik dik.  This is a key role which will involve working on the section, covering all areas of animal husbandry including feeding, cleaning, training and record keeping, as well as interacting with the Zoo visitors and assisting with the supervision and training of staff.

We are seeking an enthusiastic, high performing individual with a proven track record in zoo animal management. You will have a minimum of 4 years’ experience as a keeper and demonstrate a substantial working knowledge of the natural history and management of key species.  You must be a good team worker with a positive outlook and excellent communication skills and be committed to continued professional development of yourself and other staff.  Supervisory experience as well as an animal-related qualification, such as the BIAZA approved ANCMZA or DZMAA, would be advantageous. 

The role is full time, including weekend duties on a rota system. Salary is paid monthly and we provide uniform, 31 days holiday, 5% employer’s pension contribution after qualifying period.

RARE SPECIES CONSERVATION CENTRE.

The following opportunity has arisen at RSCC:
SENIOR KEEPER
Full Time Permanent position.
Hours: March to October 8.00am - 18.00pm (includes weekends and bank holidays)
Salary: £16,000 - £18,000 Plus performance bonuses Depending upon experience.
NO ACCOMMODATION IS PROVIDED.

Position Overview:
RSCC is a small privately run conservation breeding facility, specialising in Felids, Small and Large Carnivores, Prosimians, Marsupials and Asian Hornbills. We keep a significant collection of Malagasy Carnivores, Small Felids, Small Carnivores and Nocturnal Prosimian, some unique in Europe. We have recently significantly enlarged our facility and are in the process of carrying out significant expansion and construction plans ti improve facilities on site. The facility is currently only open on specific "Visitor Open Days" plus events and for our "Keeper For A Day" program.
RSCC Keepers are expected to carry out the usual myriad of Animal Husbandry duties including
enclosure cleaning, preparation of food, watering, bedding and enrichment for all animals.
You would also be working with a small team of volunteers and supervising them in assisting you.
Duties:
Must work within Health & Safety Guidelines and procedures, to ensure
animal, staff and visitor safety.
Maintain a complete understanding of the emergency and escapes procedures
and take part in all practices drills when required.
Carry out Animal Husbandry only as directed from management.
Record and monitor all animal behaviours and health issues. Including medical treatment.
Ability to use ZIMS is required.
Attending formal and informal training where required.
Overseeing Keeper For a Day programs and work directly with the public, whether it be giving talks or showing around guests on open days,
The opportunity to work on some of our Overseas Conservation projects will also be part of the role and this will occur on an annual basis.
Qualifications & Skills:
 
Academic or Vocation Training or Qualifications in Animal Management or Care. OR
Significant Previous Experience working directly with Small Carnivores, Felids and Prosimians is essential.
Full Clean UK Driving License. Own Transport is essential as position is in a rural area.
Ability to work on your own initiative. Punctuality and Exceptional standards of hygiene required.
Verbal communication and presentation skills are required.
