†The Maine Center for Research in STEM Education (RiSE) at the University of Maine invites applications for the position of Resource Coordinator for its science education partnerships.† The Maine Physical Sciences Partnership is an innovative, multi-million dollar, research and development effort funded by the National Science Foundation for five years.† The Maine Physical Sciences Partnership (MainePSP) brings together University of Maine faculty, staff and students, approximately 20 Maine districts, and Maine non-profits to target the improvement of teaching and learning of physical sciences in grades 6-9 and the recruitment, preparation and retention of science and mathematics teachers.† More information about the Maine Physical Sciences Partnership can be found at www.umaine.edu/mainepsp/.† The Maine Elementary Sciences Partnership (MaineESP), funded through the Maine Department of Education, leverages the infrastructure created by the MainePSP to strengthen science teaching and learning in the elementary grades.

Responsibilities of the Research Coordinator will include providing support to teachers implementing project instructional resources in both partnerships, as well as coordinating the purchase, organization, maintenance and delivery of project materials.† The Resource Coordinator will also assist with professional development around project resources, and preparation of reports and other communications related to these responsibilities.† Supervision of student workers and management of timelines and schedules are also part of the Resource Coordinatorís responsibilities.

The successful applicant must hold a BS or BA in a science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM) discipline or in STEM education, or equivalent, and have demonstrated effectiveness as a science teacher in the elementary, middle or high school grades. Evidence of in-depth understanding of physical sciences concepts taught in standards-based elementary, middle and high school grades is also required.†† Exceptionally strong organizational abilities and written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills are essential. Familiarity with common science classroom equipment and ability to do minor repairs are encouraged.† Minor lifting is required.† Must be comfortable using a database and driving a van.† Preference will be given to those who are familiar with discipline-based education research and guided inquiry instruction in science.

This full-time professional position is contingent on continued funding and successful job performance.† This job is performed in both an office setting and in assigned district schools. Expectations are for a normal 40-hour work week, although the Resource Coordinator will be expected to attend evening or weekend meetings and events.† The job responsibilities are fairly predictable, although there might be some situations or deadlines that require working outside of the normal workday.† This position requires a large amount of in-state travel to schools, with mileage reimbursed.† A link to the full job description can be found at http://umaine.edu/center/positions/professional-positions/.

TT in Education at Bowdoin College

The Bowdoin College Education Department invites applications for a tenure-track appointment at the rank of assistant professor to begin fall 2014. We seek a scholar who will pursue a productive research agenda, engage undergraduate students in the study of education as a social phenomenon and guide students in a secondary-level teacher preparation program that serves urban, rural and suburban populations. Applicants should have a strong background in the foundations of U.S. public education; preference will be given to candidates with expertise in secondary bilingual literacy and secondary math and/or science education. Applicants should demonstrate a commitment to scholarship, model best pedagogical practices and promote the interdependence of theory and practice. The successful candidate will teach four courses per year including an introductory course, a course in educational studies and a course in teacher education. Supervision for student teachers rotates amongst faculty each year and, with a reflective seminar, is included in the course load. Ph.D. preferred, ABD considered. Experience teaching or otherwise working closely with secondary-level students is highly desirable.

Winona State is looking for a physics assistant/associate professor. This tenure-track position requires at least 1 year of 9-12 teaching experience. The faculty member will be highly involved in training future elementary and secondary teachers. The department values effective teaching and PER friendly.

    Cal Teach Lecturers at UC Berkeley

    Position Description: UC Berkeley is seeking one or two full-time Lecturers for Cal Teach. Cal Teach is a pre-service teacher education program designed to prepare undergraduate science, engineering and mathematics (STEM) majors to work with K-12 students in local schools. Cal Teach aims to increase both the quantity and quality of K-12 science and mathematics teachers in California.

    Duties and Responsibilities: The Lecturer will participate in the ongoing growth and operation of the Cal Teach undergraduate and credential program by teaching several Cal Teach courses among the variety that are offered each semester. Cal Teach courses include introductory seminars focused on science or math teaching in elementary and middle schools, Knowing & Learning in Math and Science, Classroom Interactions: Focus on Equity in Urban Schools, Research Methods, Project Based Instruction, History of Science and Math, and Apprentice Teaching for student and intern teaching support. Teaching or co-teaching a Cal Teach course may include assisting with student field placements in local schools, providing supervision and support to student and intern teachers in their classrooms, and supporting Cal Teach students through the credentialing process.     Depending on funding, the Lecturer may also be appointed to coordinate the Cal Teach Summer Research Institute that supports interns to develop research skills and learn how to support the development of such skills in their students, or to coordinate the Cal Teach Transitions program, which offers induction support to Cal Teach graduates during their first three years of teaching. Associated responsibilities include collaborating on writing grants and reports, contributing to research and program evaluation, and presenting at conferences.  Cal Teach Summer Institute Coordinator and Cal Teach Transitions Coordinator responsibilities will be related to specific courses taught with Cal Teach, and will be working with a subset of the same Cal Teach students. The course load will be adjusted to account for these additional responsibilities.

    Basic Qualifications: The successful applicant will have a Masters (or equivalent) or Ph.D. (or equivalent) degree in science, engineering, mathematics, or science or mathematics education by start date.

    Additional Qualifications: At least 3 years of secondary math and/or science teaching experience is preferred, particularly within the Bay Area. Undergraduate teaching experience, excellent oral and written communication skills, good interpersonal skills, and the ability to multi-task and balance competing priorities are also desirable. The ideal candidate will also have practical experience with scientific laboratory or field research, or science or mathematics education research and program evaluation.

    We anticipate making the appointment in October 2013 for one to two years, extension of the appointment beyond that date is possible based upon funding. Salary range is $47,975 to $69,958 depending upon experience. This is an academic year appointment; summer teaching and responsibilities will be compensated separately and will be consistent with the academic year salary.

    PhysTEC Teacher in Residence at University of Central Florida


    General Info: The Department of Physics at University of Central Florida (UCF) invites
    experienced high school physics teachers to apply for a Physics Teacher in Residence (TIR)
    position for the 2013-14 academic year. The Department seeks outstanding teachers to serve
    as local experts in our Physics Teacher Education Program. Teachers in closely related fields,
    including middle school physical science, will also be considered.

    The Department of Physics has 39 full-time faculty members and approximately 200 students in
    our multi-track baccalaureate program. We also have over 100 graduate students, many of whom
    serve as graduate teaching assistants. For additional information about the department, please

    Duties and Responsibilities: The TIR will bring a unique perspective and serve an integral role

    future high school physics teachers. The TIR may co-instruct a Physics Pedagogy course, teach
    introductory physics courses, mentor pre-service teachers and undergraduate learning assistants
    and serve as liaison with the College of Education. The College of Education has over 200
    faculty members, with four science educators who have earned degrees in the sciences. For more
