Nevada State College invites applications for a full-time, 9 month tenure-track Assistant Professor of Elementary Education with an emphasis in a STEM area to begin fall 2014. She or he will teach undergraduate theories and methods courses in one or more elementary STEM areas. The teaching load for this position is four courses per semester. The candidate will prepare elementary teacher candidates to teach STEM content in diverse schools with a high percentage of English learners.
Candidates for the position should have an understanding of contemporary theories, models, assessment, and best practices associated with STEM education and be able to use technology for effective student learning.
Additional faculty duties include working in partnership schools, participating in program and curriculum development including evaluation, supervising students in the field, providing mentoring and support for adjunct faculty, participating in committees, engaging in scholarly work, and advising students.

Assistant Professor Required Qualifications:
Doctorate degree in elementary education with an emphasis in one or more of the STEM areas (highly competitive ABD candidates will be considered: Degree must be earned by date of hire)
Three years or more of K-8 teaching experience
Knowledge of Common Core standards and research-based instruction
Experience teaching at the college level
Demonstrated ability to teach a broad range of elementary courses that include STEM content and/or pedagogy
Preferred Assistant Professor Qualifications:
Successful experience utilizing a variety of technologies and UDL practices in education to promote student success
Evidence of strong commitment to preparing teachers to work in a diverse, inclusive school setting
Record of scholarly work
Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills
A desire to work with first generation and non-traditional students and contribute to the development of a growing school and/or program
Experience in applying for, receiving, and administering grant funded programs
Active membership in professional associations concerned with STEM education
