Utah’s Hogle Zoo’s is announcing the opening of a full-time position, as the Primary Animal Keeper – African Savanna – Lion Habitat, within the Animal Care Department. The African Savanna exhibit is a modern, mixed species exhibit that includes facilities that allow for advanced animal husbandry practices, and new high-quality guest encounters centered on the Zoo’s conservation and education programs. Scheduled to open in spring 2014, the African Savanna will be the largest animal habitat at the Zoo.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The Zoo is seeking a highly-qualified animal care specialist to assist with implementing quarantine procedures, daily care of a multi-male lion breeding group, introductions for housing and breeding purposes, veterinary procedures, exhibit maintenance, animal demonstrations, addressing the media, education programs, as well as, the care and husbandry of a mixed hoof-stock/bird habitat, and other animals or areas as needed.
Qualifications and Skills

Applicants must be able to work effectively in a strong team environment, foster positive interactions with guests and other Zoo departments, serve as an ambassador for the Zoo and liaison to the Association of Zoos and Aquariums in regards to animal programs, and possess a strong commitment to wildlife conservation, animal welfare, and providing a high-quality guest experience.
Excellent writing and public speaking skills are necessary.
At least 5-years paid experience working with large cats in a zoo is required.
There is a strong expectation of experience in operant conditioning and training techniques and ability to uphold high enrichment standards.
Degree in life sciences, biology, zoology or related field is preferred.
Applicant must be able to work under diverse and variable weather conditions and be able to lift over 60 pounds without injury, and bend, stoop, jump, and stretch.
Good driving record required.

Chester Zoo is one of the leading zoological collections in Europe with an international reputation for achieving its mission in conservation breeding programmes, research and education.

We are currently recruiting for a Team Manager to lead and develop one of our six mammal sections (Carnivore team). The post will involve the daily management of the Carnivore section along with mentoring, training and developing the team. Applicants should have proven experience of working with a wide range of carnivore species but with a focus on large cats, canids and small carnivores. Candidates will have a higher education qualification in a Zoological related science (min HND) or equivalent experience.

The successful candidate will have considerable leadership experience and qualities to be able to supervise a team and be able to organise and prioritise tasks in a dynamic environment.  This role will involve managing the team and its budgets.
A good understanding of risk assessments and COSHH are essential to ensure all staff are fully aware of safety and management procedures. This role will involve representing the Carnivore team at internal and external meetings, workshops and conferences in the UK and overseas. Therefore, excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.

Applicants should have a full driving licence and be prepared to work weekends and Bank Holidays in a roster system.

Salary is £29,268 per annum for a 40 hour week.

Twycross Zoo – East Midland Zoological Society (TZEMS), the World Primate Centre, has over 850 animals and is one of the most comprehensive collections of primate species and subspecies in the western world. We have exciting plans for developing the Zoo further, continuing our work in conservation of endangered species and providing the very best environment that we can.



We currently have a vacancy for a Senior Keeper on the Hooves and Carnivores section. The section manages our ungulates and our range of large and small carnivores. This is a key role which involves working on the section, covering all areas of animal husbandry and assisting with staff training.



We are seeking a high performing individual with a proven track record in zoo animal management. You will have a minimum of 4 years’ experience as a zoo based ungulate and/or carnivore keeper and demonstrate a working knowledge of the natural history and management of these taxa. You must be committed to continued professional development and be a good team worker. An animal-related qualification, such as the BIAZA approved ANCMZA or DZMAA, would be advantageous.



The role is full time, including weekend duties on a rota system. Salary is paid monthly and we provide uniform, 31 days holiday, 5% employer’s pension contribution (following qualifying period).

SALARY IRO £14,000 - £16,000 Dependant on experience.

RSCC is a small maverick, private conservation and breeding centre focused on the breeding of Rare and Endangered species of Carnivores & Nocturnal Prosimians. We are home to a diverse collection ranging from Aardwolf to Rusty Spotted Cat and Banded Civet to Tarsier.

We are not currently open to the public as a visitor attraction.

We are currently looking to recruit an experienced, self motivated, positive and enthusiastic Individual to join our team. They would work directly under our Head Keeper. The position would suit any experienced individual with a genuine passion for these animal groups.

REQUIREMENTS

* At least 2 years previous experience working or volunteering in a zoological facility or relevant field OR
  a graduate in Zoo animal husbandry or management.
* Strong communication and organisational skills and hands on approach.
* Ability to work as a team or alone when needed.
* A sincere passion in the species groups kept at our facility.
* Exceptional standards or hygiene and cleanliness are essential.

Nutrition Research Intern – Carnivore Emphasis

SUMMARY
The emphasis of this position will primarily focus on laboratory analytical procedures in an exotic animal nutrition laboratory, including sample and data collection and laboratory analyses. In addition, the candidate will be participating in an investigation regarding the impact of diet and (or) dietary ingredients on carnivore health and well-being.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
The candidate will work directly under the supervision of the Director of Comparative Nutrition and the Nutrition Manager at Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo. The candidate will be responsible for learning and conducting all laboratory analyses associated with exotic carnivore nutrition research and diet management. The candidate will be responsible for assisting with sample collection during nutrition research projects.

EXPERIENCE
Nutrition laboratory or chemistry experience preferred.

EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS
Undergraduate work toward a B.S in nutrition, biochemistry, animal science, or related biological field.

PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS
Candidate must be independently motivated and possess a familiarity with nutrition research techniques. The candidate must have a flexible schedule and willing to work weekends or holidays if necessary, although a standard Monday through Friday schedule will be typical. Candidate should have an understanding of basic chemistry and scientific method, and exceptional attention to detail. Good communication skills are required, both oral and written. Candidate must be able to work in a team environment, and willing to work alone in a laboratory setting. Basic computer skills are required including applications in EXCEL, WORD, and POWERPOINT.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Some undergraduate coursework.
Valid and current driver’s license.

HOURS
This is a full-time position (30 – 40 hours per week) for 6 months, with potential for a 6 month extension.
