Associate Veterinarian Position Available.

Tai Wai Small Animal and Exotic Hospital is looking for an experienced small animal & exotic vet.

We are a well-established and well-equipped multicultural small animal and exotic hospital with 7 vets. Our Hospital is in a traditional area of Hong Kong, surrounded by jungle and mountain, yet close to the City. Our Hospital prides itself on our high standards of patient care and client and staff satisfaction.

This position will suit a veterinary surgeon with a genuine interest in exotics as 60% of our case is exotics. You would also have the opportunity to develop other areas of expertise and interest. Stamina, enthusiasm and sense of humor is vital!
CPD is strongly encouraged, we provide 1 week CPD per year and a generous allowance to support it.

Salary is based on production with a guaranteed base. There is an option to work a 4 or 5 day working week. Generous annual leave provided and 17 days public holidays per year. Accommodation will be provided for the first month is necessary.

Associate Veterinarian, Division of Conservation and Education, Al Ain Wildlife Park and Resort (AWPR), Abu Dhabi, UAE
The Al Ain Wildlife Park (AWPR) first developed as Al Ain Zoo in 1968 by the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan is being redeveloped by the Abu Dhabi government as an expanded 900 hectare integrated biodiversity institution and resort. The new park will feature extensive exhibits of arid land biodiversity including five World Desert Habitats illustrating the animals, plants, landscapes and cultures of specific desert ecoregions, the Oasis Gardens, five Safaris exhibiting the landscapes and large mammals of five specific deserts. Phase 1 will open in November 2015 and will include the opening of the African World Desert based on the Samburu Region of Northern Kenya. The new Sheikh Zayed Desert Learning Centre is a new world class museum exhibiting the geology, culture and biodiversity of the United Arab Emirates and is a tribute to the environmental heritage of the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan. The project has a strong conservation foundation with ongoing ex situ and in-country biodiversity projects in Arabia and NE Africa and developing partnerships with zoos, botanic gardens and cultural institutions. The current zoo site is being redeveloped as a new Conservation Breeding Centre dedicated to conservation and research. The project is being developed using the Abu Dhabi government’s sustainability guidelines (ESTIDAMA) and is committed to inspiring guests and visitors through creating an extraordinary set of landscape experiences and biodiversity encounters. AWPR is an integral part of the government of Abu Dhabi’s tourist infrastructure and a key component in the nation’s strategy of developing knowledge based economy. AWPR is a member of WAZA and is working towards full compliance with EAZA standards and policies.
We currently have an exciting new position for a qualified Wild Life Veterinarian to join our Veterinary Science team as an Associate Veterinarian on a permanent full time basis. Reporting to the Senior Veterinarian the successful candidate will work closely with Veterinary team ensuring excellent care for all animals at the Zoo.
The successful candidate will be responsible for proactively managing the health of the Zoo's animals while working closely with the Animal Collection team. In addition to this the successful candidate will be responsible for veterinary record keeping, assisting with teaching and training, providing veterinary input into AWPR conservation programmes and contributing to our conservation medicine projects and research.
The successful candidate will work with the Senior Veterinarian to ensure that AWPR grows as an active contributor to national, regional and international breeding and reintroduction projects and an active participant in EAZA and WAZA activities
The Associate veterinarian will reports to the Senior Veterinarian and will be responsible for
(1) Provides medical and surgical care at a location or specific collection,
(2) Participates in establishing policies, procedures, and standards
(3) Oversees restraining or immobilization procedures
(4) Participate in developing veterinary programs,
(5) Develop diagnoses and treatment programs,
(6) Performs emergency and scheduled surgical procedures,
(7) Reviews and analyses pathology records,
(8) Develops and administers preventive medicine and husbandry programs such as vaccinations, worming, nutrition, foot care, dental care, and quarantine examinations,
(9) Coordinates off-site veterinary services and support for conservation programs,
(10) Develops instructional programs and teaches animal care staff, visiting veterinarians, and students,
(11) Conducts and participates in animal inspection rounds with staff and other departments to discuss and plan treatment programs
The ideal candidate will have experience in managing a diverse animal collection and a commitment to establishing the highest standards of care and welfare. The position will suit an individual with a passion for arid land animals who is comfortable working in a multidisciplinary and multicultural institution and working beyond the traditions of a zoo. The successful candidate should be qualified Wild Life Veterinarian preferably with M.Sc in Veterinary Medicine or (DVM) Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from an accredited university. The candidate should have at least 4 -6 years of experience in a world class zoological institute/wild animal collection.

Twycross Zoo - East Midland Zoological Society (TZEMS), the World Primate Centre, has over 1,000 animals and is one of the most comprehensive collections of primate species and subspecies in the western world.  We have exciting plans for developing the Zoo further, continuing our work in conservation of endangered species and providing the very best environment that we can.

A position has become available for a Veterinary Associate to work within the on-site veterinary team. This is a new role and a unique opportunity to be part of the development of the on-site veterinary service at a zoo that is undergoing an exciting period of change.

The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic, dedicated team player and experienced clinician for this exciting role.  You will be part of a two vet, one nurse team carrying out the preventative and reactive veterinary care and pathology of all species.  Duties also involve assisting with the training of clinical vet students from the University of Nottingham, research projects, departmental administrative tasks and data management.

The successful applicant will be expected to have:

  • A relevant veterinary degree and be a member  of the RCVS
  • MSc in Wild Animal Health, Certificate in Zoo Medicine or other relevant postgraduate qualification (TZEMZS is an approved centre for the RCVS Diploma)
  • Relevant experience
  • A full driving licence



This is a full-time, permanent position, 5 days per week on a rota to include weekends.  Salary is paid monthly and we provide uniform, 31 days holiday and 5% employer's pension contribution after a qualifying period.
