Animal Keeper




ANIMAL KEEPER


Knowsley Safari Park is the largest safari park in the UK and, at present, we are undergoing redevelopment. As part of this development process the walk around exhibit area of the park is going through some exciting changes. We are looking for an enthusiastic candidate that can assist in developing and delivering high standards of animal care within this area of the park. The species that are currently within this section range from various large and small mammals, reptiles and invertebrates.


The successful candidate will have sound knowledge of animal husbandry and a strong team mentality to achieve the team’s objectives. Previous experience of working with exotic species along with experience of positive reinforcement techniques for the purpose of training would be advantageous but not essential.

Knowledge of working within safe working protocols and risk assessments would be desirable. A full UK driving licence is essential, and tractor and trailer driving experience would be beneficial. The successful candidate will have an Advanced National Certificate in the Management of Zoo Animals qualification (or equivalent national recognised Level 3 qualification).

This is a full time, permanent position (average 40 hour working week) which will include bank holidays and weekends on a rotated basis. The position comes with a salary of up to £15,000 depending upon suitability and experience as well as 23 days holidays each year plus 8 days in lieu of bank holidays and a generous pension scheme. Continuous professional development is encouraged and the Company will provide the tools to accomplish this.

Opened in 1971 Knowsley Safari Park is one of the biggest and best safari parks in the UK. Knowsley Safari Park now has a five mile safari drive with lions, tiger, white rhino and our infamous troop of olive baboons. The park also has a large walkaround area offering close up views of elephants, giraffe, meerkats otters and many more animals.

We are currently recruiting for Presenters who have a talent for informing and inspiring our visitors to work alongside our Education Department. You will work from 11:30 until 15:30 engaging with, and performing to, our visitors in both a one-to-one capacity and group presentations

You will be confident and enthusiastic as well as hold a keen interest in wildlife and conservation. You will receive full support in learning new material and assistance in developing your presenting style. Experience of working with children is desirable, however the confidence and ability to engage with people of all ages is most important.

The contract will start on 16 March 13 for a week of induction and training, with presentations starting on 23 March 13 and will run through to the end of October half term. Flexibility is required as the successful candidates will be required to work weekends and bank holidays. The rate of pay will be £6.50 per hour.

Opened in 1971 Knowsley Safari Park is one of the biggest and best safari parks in the UK.  Knowsley Safari Park now has a five mile safari drive with lions, tiger, white rhino and our infamous troop of olive baboons. The park also has a large walkaround area offering close up views of elephants, giraffe, meerkats otters and many more animals. 

 

We are currently looking for 2 Team Leader.  One of which will be working on a section which includes predominantly carnivores and hoofstock and the other section working predominantly with rhino and baboon. 

 

We are looking for someone with a hands on approach to animal management with the ability to lead, mentor, train and develop a team of Animal Keepers.  The overall purpose of the role will be to successfully ensure the highest standard of husbandry, welfare and exhibitory on a daily basis, whilst fostering excellent team work.

 

Substantial experience within the field as well as a sound working knowledge of the relevant species is essential.  The successful candidate will have significant knowledge and experience of working with a variety of species.  Candidates should have a good level of education, be computer literate and a driving licence is essential.  A firearms license is desirable.

 

This is a full time, permanent position (average 40 hour working week) which will include bank holidays and weekends, although there is a rota providing one in every three weekends off work.  The position comes with a salary of between £20,100 and £22,920 depending upon suitability and experience as well as 23 days holidays each year plus 8 days in lieu of bank holidays, a generous pension scheme and Childcare Vouchers.  Continuous professional development is encouraged and the Company will provide the tools for the successful candidate to do this.

Elephant Keeper


ELEPHANT KEEPER

Knowsley Safari Park is the largest safari park in the UK, and at present we are under going redevelopment. As part of this development process the elephant programme is going through some exciting changes. We are looking for an enthusiastic candidate that can assist in developing and delivering the elephant programme. The elephant section at Knowsley Safari Park manages a herd of 1.6 African elephants in a protected contact system.

The successful candidate will have sound knowledge of animal husbandry and a strong team mentality to achieve the team’s objectives. The candidate will have an open minded approach to different techniques of elephant management. They will have previous experience of working with elephants and a good understanding of elephants as a unit. Experience of positive reinforcement techniques for the purpose of training would be advantageous.
