Administrator



Hamerton Zoo Park
Administrator
(With responsibility for marketing, public relations and IT)
Part-Time: 9am – 2pm (Monday – Friday)

Office Duties:
General office duties, including answering the telephone, e-mails, compiling letters and general enquiries. Also filing and record keeping. Therefore good communication skills and excellent written English are vital.

IT:
Applicants must be computer literate. Desktop publishing, including the creation and printing of leaflets and other educational documents, signs, raffle prizes and sponsorship packages.

Bookings:
Booking group and school visits, photography sessions, Keeper-for-a-Day and animal contact sessions, in association with animal staff and an Education Officer.

Ordering:
Ordering of animal feed, office supplies, animal identification equipment and other animal supplies as required.

Records:
Updating the movement book for domestic animals in association with the animal staff. Also the on-going filing and maintenance of insurance records, health and safety audits, COSSH assessments, animal-by-products, waster carrier licence, zoo licence, animal quarantine and rabies order records, fire, gas and electrical safety audits, and any others as required.

Marketing and Press:
Pro-active, regular and enthusiastic promotion of the Park to schools, media and public in any way appropriate. Production of photographs, video and text for our monthly e-letter, online media, promotion through TV, papers and other media. Regular contact with our web designers and giving input to update our website.

All aimed at increasing general public awareness, foot-fall and revenue.

Full driving licence is required.

Full-time: Monday – Friday

Description:
An Education Officer Post has arisen at Hamerton Zoo Park. We are looking for an enthusiastic and outgoing individual who can create and implement a fun and informative education programme aimed at a variety of ages. This position will also require the individual to create a new Health and Safety Policy.

Health and Safety:
Creation of a Health and Safety Policy from scratch covering all aspects of the parks operations, plus the ongoing maintenance and revision of same.
The creation of Risk Assessments for internal use and for general public and school visits, animal contact sessions, children’s parties, outside contractors, school contact sessions and any others where required - all in association with our animal staff, director and regulatory authorities.

Educational Programmes:
Schools and other groups:
The successful applicant will be required to create a formal education policy, following the collection of data from schools and other groups, by comparison with other zoos, parks and similar venues. Being able to work alone and as part of a team is vital for this position as you will be expected to maximise group numbers, footfall and revenue in many areas, including Photography Groups, Animal contact sessions, and creating a new income stream through (but not limited to), organising Children’s Parties, Face Painting and Keeper-for-a-Day schemes.

The Education Officer will also be required to assist with the Zoo’s Photography Groups and Animal Contact Sessions.

Implement the new education policy which may involve creating worksheets, gift packs, organising animal contacts, and designing and giving lectures. Therefore excellent communication skills and excellent written English are expected.

A full driving license is also needed as you will be expected to be able to travel to schools to give such talks and activities if required.

Public Talks:
The successful applicant will be required to formulate and give public talks in association with our animal staff and volunteers.

Keeper Duties:
The successful applicant will also be a cover keeper to familiarise themselves with all aspects of our animal collection, and be able to assist keepers with daily duties if required.

Assistant Education Volunteers

 
Assistant Education Volunteers
Come and join the fantastic team here at Hamerton Zoo Park, helping the keepers to educate our visiting public. We are looking for an out-going, enthusiastic person to give talks to the public and assist the keepers with events on and off site during Spring and Summer 2013 (Easter to end of summer holidays).

You will need good communication, presentation and organisational skills with the ability to talk to a wide range of ages. Applicants must be 18 years of age or older and have a genuine interest in animals and wildlife conservation.

We require a number of people to cover 7 days a week, 4-5 hours per day. If you are interested please send a covering letter detailing experience, why you would like to join us at Hamerton and when you would be available.
