ZooKeeper Apprenticeship



Apprenticeship

We have a very exciting opportunity for an Apprentice keeper to join our Zoo Animal Management (ZAM) team and acquire specialist on the job training. This vacancy is open to those aged 18-24 due to government funding restrictions and provisions under the Young People at Work regulations.

The apprentice keeper will work to a high standard under the direction of the Head Keeper. The ZAM department care for the main collection of animals at the zoo and the successful candidate will assist in caring for a variety of domestic and exotic species whilst also providing support for the rest of their respective team where required.

No prior zoo or animal husbandry experience for the post of apprentice is required as full in house training will be given, although candidates will be expected to demonstrate a keen interest in zoo animal husbandry. The successful candidate will also be expected to achieve an NVQ Level 2 in animal care during the course of their apprenticeship which is expected to last between 12-14 months.

Hours: Average 40 hours a week

Salary: £2.65 per hour - for the first year, rising to minimum wage thereafter

APPRENTICE ANIMAL KEEPER

Noah's Ark Zoo Farm has a vacancy for an animal section keeper apprentice. The position provides a unique learning opportunity in which an apprentice has a chance to work on all sections within the zoo, gaining comprehensive practical skills and knowledge of animal care and management.

The apprenticeship is for an initial 12 months with the potential for a second year.

The first year's salary is £100 per week. Each apprentice is required to work towards an NVQ to provide written qualifications which support the practical learning undertaken.

A normal working week will be 5 days from 8am to 5pm with most weekends and bank holidays included.
