Primate Keeper Internship (unpaid)
We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic person who wants to gain valuable zoo animal keeping experience, to work alongside keepers on the Primate Section at Howletts Wild Animal Park and benefit from getting involved in our ground breaking reintroduction projects.
Howletts Wild Animal Park, situated near Canterbury in Kent, works in conjunction with The Aspinall Foundation, a charity committed to conservation and the reintroduction of captive bred species back into their natural habitats. Howletts is proud to be home to a collection of around 160 rare and endangered primates, including Javan Gibbons, Dusky Langurs, Sulawesi Macaques, Pied Tamarins and Gelada Baboons.
The Aspinall Foundation manages a number of projects across the world including Congo, Gabon, Madagascar and Indonesia. In February we are reintroducing a group of captive born Javan Langurs and a Javan Gibbon to our reserve in Indonesia and a further group of Javan Gibbons will be sent
“Back to the Wild” later this year.
We are looking for candidates who are willing to commit to a minimum of 6 months to a maximum of 12 months and be willing and available to work from 8am to 5pm, 5 days per week. Weekend work and bank holidays may be required.
This is a physically demanding position so candidates must be physically fit, self motivated and have a genuine interest in conservation and primates. This is an unpaid internship that would benefit someone already qualified or established in conservation or animal care.
A valid driving licence is required for the internship and please be aware that unfortunately we are unable to offer accommodation.
