Fixed Term at St. Cloud State, MN

Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Description: The Physics and Astronomy academic unit http://www.stcloudstate.edu/physics is home to faculty experts in astronomy, optics, and physics, as well as a group of dedicated support staff and students. This position is a full-time fixed-term non-tenure-track faculty position in physics. Examples of courses that may need to be taught include calculus based introductory physics I and II (PHYS 234/235), supplemental instruction for introductory physics I (PHYS 199), junior-level optics (PHYS 333), and lasers (PHYS 435).
Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate courses with laboratories at all levels in the academic unit as well as advanced courses in optics, advise students, engage in scholarly activities, and participate in continual development of curriculum and assessment activities.

Qualifications and experience:
Required:
· Ph.D. in physics, or related area (ABD acceptable at application if Ph.D. is completed by Aug. 1 2013)
· Evidence of ability to teach physics and optics effectively at all levels, including laboratory courses
· Evidence of demonstrated ability to teach and work with persons from culturally diverse backgrounds
Preferred:
· Research and/or teaching experience in optics beyond the Ph.D.
· Interests in student growth and development
· Ability to teach and work effectively with students colleagues, and others in the university
