Animal Carer 

The Isle of Wight Zoo is the Island’s original and leading zoo specializing in big cats and lemurs. It is located on the popular east coast of the Isle of Wight overlooking a spectacular sandy beach just half an hour’s drive away from the capital town. The zoo is privately operated by a proactive and dedicated team.

A valuable and exciting opportunity has arisen for an Animal Carer to join the animal department and assist, primarily, in the care of primates, small mammals, reptiles, amphibians and invertebrates. 


The successful candidate will have a strong work ethic alongside superior animal husbandry skills. A passion and aptitude for educating and engaging the public and wider community is also paramount to this position. A proactive approach to practical work and desire to input further into developing the animal department is essential. 


Working knowledge of zoo animal husbandry will be a vital aspect of the post.
Applicants must be in a position to relocate to the Isle of Wight.

This role is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the public education programme of the Isle of Wight Zoo. The successful candidate will act as a host for the zoo’s diverse range of visitors and will be responsible for providing them with an experience which is both educational and entertaining. This will involve carrying out public presentations, giving scientifically-accurate information to our visitors about the animals and about the work and the heritage of the zoo. They will also be closely involved with delivering our special animal experiences such as 'Keeper for the Day’.

Interviews will be held at the end of January.
