Ungulate Supervisor

Every section is designed to help our Adventurers get up even closer and more personal with the cheeky, the mischievous and the exotic – and in this key role, you’ll be right there at the heart supervising the safe & efficient Zoo Operation within our Ungulate section.


About the role


Focusing on animal welfare & husbandry, and adventurers’ experience, you will lead, motivate & develop the Ungulates team of around 15 dedicated staff, to ensure they maintain the highest possible standards. As the team and department develop, you will constantly be seeking ways to maximise adventurer experience, whilst creating the most stimulating environment possible for our animals. Since we’re big on conservation, education and research, you’ll have a big part to play in that too. Taking an active role in the wider elements of the Zoo, you will support with the delivery of revenue-growing activities (e.g. Xtra Adventures) and suggest methods to encourage guests’ footfall and dwell time within Zoo areas of the Resort.


A typical day will see you promoting a safe and exciting environment for both your team and your animals. You will have a great attention to detail, and be able to prioritise your resources to maximise efficiency within the team. You will manage your time between hands on operational needs whilst keeping a close eye on recruitment, training, and continued development of your people


About you

Our ideal candidate will have solid experience of working with Ungulates and will ideally have a recognised qualification in captive animal management. You will have passion and excitement for your chosen field, with a keen drive to utilize advances in modern animal management. With previous experience of leading a team, you will have confidence in making both team & operational decisions. With an understanding of our family friendly resort brand, you will be an excellent communicator to engage our adventurers in our exciting collection across the park. You will have a good business acumen, with a desire to develop the department operationally & provide extra revenue to the business. You will be flexible, able to work full time 40 hours per week on a variable rota basis which will include weekends and bank holidays.

Working within the Bird & Reptile Team you will take an active role in the day to day running of our awesome collection. About the role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Displays Supervisor to join the team at Chessington World of Adventures Resort.



About the role 



In this role you will take responsibility for ensuring the continual development and innovation within the displays areas.  Naturally you’ll be responsible for maintenance plans of the life support systems and the cleanliness of our displays as well as the development of suitable diets and feeds for our creatures, ensuring we present world class displays.



About you


You’ll be a dynamic, confident and a self-motivated individual; who will be heading up the team aiming for a centre of excellence in marine management, conservation, preservation and education.

Using your experience, gained by working in a similar environment, you will have a robust knowledge of aquatic animal husbandry; and have the ability to communicate to all employees and clients as well as deliver a highly immersive experience to all our visitors.  You’ll also have a good understanding of zoo licensing having had exposure to a zoo licence in a previous role. You will ideally have project management experience and have relevant qualifications in the aquatic field.

About the role
Every section is designed to help our Adventurers get up even closer and more personal with the cheeky, the mischievous and the exotic – and in this key role, you’ll be right there at the heart of it, making sure that everything runs smoothly.
Supporting the Zoo Manager in the safe & efficient delivery of the Zoo Operation, focusing on animal welfare & husbandry and of course, Adventurer experience!

Key objectives include:
  • Manage & promote the compliance & adherence to all relevant Health & Safety Procedures & Protocols, to ensure the highest standards for self, visitors and guests.
  • A track record in Leading, motivating & developing teams/sections to maintain the highest possible standard of Animal Husbandry, Animal Welfare, Conservation, Education & Guest Experience.
  • Have a sound knowledge, experience and understanding of positive reinforcement animal training.
  • Some knowledge and experience with large Hoofstock would be preferable.
  • Business acumen with some budgetary experience if possible.
  • Develop methods to encourage/increase Adventurer dwell time in the Zoo areas of the Resort.

You will be a dynamic people leader with drive and passion for focus and development. You will have a solid background of Health & Safety knowledge and crucially Zoo Legislation. You perhaps have a goal to become a Zoo Manager and this opportunity will play a crucial part in taking you there. You must be organised and flexible with the business needs and will be able to stay focused and in control under pressure. You will actively evolve with change and business requirements and keep up to date within your field.  This position is permanent working full time; flexibility is required to meet the needs of the business.

About the role:
Working in the team who prepare, care for & train our Sealions, Mammals and various Exotic Birds for educational presentations & shows; no 2 days in this role are ever the same!
 
Main areas of responsibility include:
  • Planning, evaluating & executing environmental enrichment for all animals on the section.
  • Delivery of first-class daily animal presentations, shows, commercial activities and memorable experiences to our Adventurers.
  • Continually interacting with guests, answering questions & providing information to enhance their ‘Wild’ experience!
  • Positive reinforcement training of a wide variety of species for husbandry, guest interactions and presentation behaviours.
  • Demonstrating a commercial awareness to seek new initiatives to increase revenue and minimise costs, whilst maintaining standards.
  • Working with the whole attraction team in delivering a family focused environment that both follows the code of safe working practices as well as exceeding customers expectations.
  • Mentoring, coaching and supervising work-experience students and apprentices.
  • Keeping through and up-to-date records.
 
This role is permanent working full time; 5 days out of 7. Shifts include early’s and late’s, weekdays, weekends & bank holidays; flexibility is required to meet the needs of the business.
 
About you:
Our ideal candidate will have extensive work experience of animal training in demonstrating operant and classical conditioning; preferably with marine mammals and/or exotic mammals and birds. Along with a thorough theoretical knowledge of animal learning, a bachelor degree or equivalent would be advantageous. Exceptional presentation skills and showmanship is a must, in addition to the ability & passion to interact with the public. With the enthusiasm to learn & develop in the role, a good level of understanding of natural sciences and knowledge of dietary requirements of animals is required, to build upon. Strong communication & computer skills are required; swimming & diving ability with a SCUBA certification is advantageous.
