Security Advisor £Competitive + Excellent Benefits
Beirut, Lebanon
The conflict in Syria has resulted in what is now a regional humanitarian crisis. Over 2 million refugees have now fled violence in Syria, mostly to neighbouring countries, and are in desperate need of shelter, food and water. Within Syria, more than 6.8 million people need of humanitarian assistance. Oxfam's response has already helped over 200,000 people and we are aiming to reach up over 650,000 people in Syria, Jordan and Lebanon in the next year. Right now, we’re looking for more committed professionals to aid our humanitarian efforts.
What we’re looking for To meet the challenges of this role, you’ll need a proven track record of security assessment, planning and implementation for humanitarian operations in insecure areas. You will have excellent negotiation and analytical skills – including context mapping and analysis – which will prove vital in this role. While you don’t need to be able to speak Arabic, it would be an advantage. And in the current situation, you’ll need to be willing to travel to all areas of the region at short notice, and sometimes in difficult circumstances. Oxfam especially would like to hear from women with a strong security advisory background, to join our team.
About Oxfam A simple, inescapable truth underlines everything we do at Oxfam. There’s enough wealth in this world to go around. It’s not unfortunate that people live in poverty. It’s unjustifiable. It’s not just their problem. It’s ours too. And with the right support, we can beat poverty and injustice. Thousands of people already commit their time and talents to our campaigning, humanitarian and long-term development projects. Now we’re looking for yours.
