GENERAL NATURE OF POSITION:
Applicants are invited for the position of Post-Doctoral Researcher in Science Education located at San
Jose State University. The successful candidate will work closely with faculty members in the Colleges of Science and Education on an NSF funded project concerning the development of a classroom observation instrument and protocol to assess student participation and interactivity in undergraduate STEM courses.
The successful candidate will have knowledge of best practices in science education and have experience performing classroom observations. Candidates with science discipline-based degrees are invited to apply, but prior education research experience is a requirement for this position.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Post Doctoral Researcher will assist the Principal Investigator and Co-Principal Investigator in
preparing literature reviews; developing, validating and establishing reliability for classroom observation instrument protocol; collecting data; preparing and co-authoring publications; preparing grant reports; and co-authoring grant applications for future funding.

INTERPERSONAL CONTACTS:
The Post-Doctoral Researcher will be working with the PI, Co-PI, and various undergraduate and graduate students involved in the project.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required Qualification:
1. Earned Doctorate degree in relevant field
2. Strong research and writing skills
3. Research experience in STEM education or related field
4. Prior education specific experience is a requirement for this position
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Record of publications in STEM education or related field
2. Experience teaching at the secondary and/or post-secondary level
3. Experience with development, validation and reliability of quantitative research instruments
4. Demonstrated success in grant writing
Environmental Conditions:
The Post-Doctoral Researcher will work in an office environment and also collect data in a classroom
environment.
Physical Requirement:
Must be able to operate a PC including mouse and keyboard.
Proficient in Internet research, MS Office, spreadsheets or other applicable software packages.
Must be able to sit for long periods.
Complexity of Duties:
Works on a variety of problems of complex scope where analysis of data or solutions requires evaluation of various factors. Exercises independent judgment in developing methods and evaluating criteria to achieve goals. Works without appreciable direction on assigned projects/programs.
