The University of North Dakota's Physics and Astrophysics Department is seeking to fill a General Physics Lab Supervisor position. The position begins August 16, 2013. The main duty of the position is to manage general physics laboratories for 100 and 200 level physics classes. Duties include: scheduling of laboratories; assign teaching assistants to appropriate courses; train GTAs to conduct lab exercises; maintain laboratory equipment; order consumables; keep laboratory computers bug-free and in working order; and upgrade laboratory manuals as changes are made to the courses. In addition, the lab supervisor is required to teach two laboratory sections each semester during the academic year and should be available to fill in for a teaching assistant in the event of illness or other emergencies. The laboratory supervisor would serve as a resource person for other courses, with the primary function of helping the department Chair allocate teaching assistants. Minimum qualifications: M.S. in Physics; experience teaching introductory physics laboratories, strong communication skills, ability to successfully interact with faculty, staff and students, ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism, ability to work independently as well as part of a team, and availability to work some non-standard hours as needed. Preferred qualifications: Ph. D. in Physics, at least 2 years of experience teaching introductory physics laboratories, and working knowledge and experience with computer systems and electronic instruments.
