Man Tracking Dog Handler / Instructor

Position Summary
Conducts human tracking, trailing and air scenting to locate disturbed ground vegetation and human based scent in a jungle environment in areas not limited to 60 degree inclines. A Comprehensive understanding of tracking, trailing and air scenting behavior exhibited by a K9 working odor is critical to performance of this position. The Handler/Instructor is required to understand imprinting methodologies and how to locate both “known” and “unknown” starting locations using K9. The successful candidate will have a proven ability to recognize a change in behavior by the K9 when it is on a track and in odor that should result when reasonable in the successful location of both fleeing and hiding personnel.

General Purpose
Provide human-scent tracking.
Position Responsibilities
•Provide emergency response;
•Summon professional assistance and render First Responder First Aid to individuals who become injured or ill;
•K9 Handling , Maintenance and Sustainment Training for the Tracking Dog;
•Protect life and property;
•Maintain order;
•Maintain the canine’s welfare;
•Maintain dog’s training records to meet contract requirements;
•Perform other functions as directed by leadership;
Essential Skills and Experience
•U.S. Citizen;
•Graduated from a state, county, city law enforcement academy and is state certified (or military equivalent). Military K9 combat tracking or K9 Law Enforcement Man Tracking is preferred;
•Five (5) years of service as a Military or Law Enforcement K9 Instructor with Handling Experience working a Man Tracking or Dual Purpose Dog with Man Tracking Capabilities;
•Four – five (4-5) years of security-related experience;
•Able to recognize K9 diseases, be familiar with hygiene requirements, and know the physical condition of the K-9;
•Certified in accordance with North American Police Work Dog Association (NAPWDA), or other national/State/provincial military or law enforcement agency standards as a working K9 Handler where Tracking Handler training and or dual purpose K9 certifications that include K9 Tracking have been awarded;
•Required Must be recognized as a certified K9 Training Instructor or Kennel Master by an Accredited Agency or through a nationally recognized certification organization such as NAPWDA, USPCA, PSP etc.Physical Demands and Work Environment

Must be prepared to live and work in an austere environment. Must be willing up to work seven days a week, 12 hours a day. Must be able to perform 24-hour scent tracking.
