Civil Military Operations Human Rights Instructor

Job Summary
The Civil Military Operations Training Human Rights Instructor is responsible for developing and executing the program of instruction for Civil-Military Operations (CMO), including humanitarian law, prevention of sexual abuse, internally displaced persons, conflict resolution, negotiating principles, media relations, civil and stability operations and community needs assessments.
Principal Accountabilities
Facilitate Civil Military Operations Human Rights Training to selected Forces Armées de la République Démocratique du Congo (FARDC) military members throughout the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
Assist the CMO training team in presenting the Human Rights block of instruction.
Lead classroom discussion over the various scenarios presented in the approved curriculum.
Provide continuous improvement of the existing CMO program of instruction.
Train up to 50 students per CMO course with the assistance of a FARDC assistant instructor and two FARDC interpreters.
Assist the CMO Team Leader in developing curriculum, preparing lesson plans, designing and implementing course material.
Evaluate FARDC students in course comprehension by administering course exams.
Maintain training records to include test scores of students, student evaluations and after action reviews.
Coordinate with the CMO team leader for course budget and supplies.
Maintain property accountability of all course training equipment and supplies.
Provide weekly assessments of training to the CMO team leader.
Perform other duties as assigned

Knowledge & Skills
Ability to interact with African military personnel and instruct in a way that is understandable
Knowledge of human rights protection issues in Africa, especially DRC
Ability to conduct small group training
Ability to conduct training in harsh field conditions as necessary
Ability to multi-task.
Knowledge of various computer skills desirable (ex: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).
Conversational French Speaking skills is a plus but not necessary
Civil Affairs background is desirable.

Experience & Education
Bachelor’s Degree in an associated discipline.
Previous experience in human rights background investigations.
Three (3) or more years of experience in Africa; DRC preferred.
Graduate-level education in international relations or law is preferred.

Physical Requirements/Working Environment
Location is Kinshasa, DRC but may be tasked to train throughout the DRC as requested.
Location is a rugged environment, self-contained and remote.
Must be able to operate in a remote environment with limited local resources

Travel
Position will require limited travel throughout the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
