Job Summary
Inspect, maintain and troubleshoot supported weapons for which qualified. Provide on-the-spot instruction to Afghanistan personnel as necessary. Advises in the use of technical data to troubleshoot,
repair or replace malfunctioning weapons.
Principal Accountabilities
Install aircraft weapons and mounts on supported aircraft.
Maintain all weapons in a ready status and ensuring all aircraft weapons systems are in a mission capable status. Reporting to the Crew Chief, Operations Manager/
Program Manager the weapons status, condition, inventories and accountability. The Arms Room Technician will ensure that all parts ordered are correct and the amount necessary to replenish stock.
Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on weapons for which qualified. Perform operational checks on electrical harnesses, connectors and switches. Perform operational checks on mechanical operation of weapons daily.
Maintain, review and update the weapons safety program, safety bulletin board, weapons SOP’s, and weapons checklists, related publications and technical library every month.
Understand maintenance data forms and historical records and ensure they are accurate and complete.
Perform bore sight and harmonization checks to ensure proper alignment of gun barrels.
Troubleshoot weapons systems as situations dictate.
Inventory of all weapons assigned to the site at the beginning of each rotation.
Maintain 100% inventory of all assigned weapons and associated equipment.
Ensures proper storage and accountability of all weapons on site and complete a weapon transfer hand receipt for in-transit weapons.
Ensure the proper storage, handling and inventory of all ammunition on site.
Reports and maintain a daily accurate account and usage of ammunition.
Maintains an accurate account of rounds fired and used per weapon on hand.
Ensures load of ammunition requirements on hand support the mission.
Provides Crew Chief SI with daily weapons status and ammunition accountability report.
Reports to the Crew Chief SI immediately any discrepancies in weapons inventories, lost weapons or personal emergencies.
Ensures Annual qualifications are accomplished using USCENTCOM and DynCorp policies and procedures.
Assists host nation armament personnel in preparing a duty schedule and daily operations while assigned to the Arms Room.
Advise Crew Chief SI on preparing, updating and maintaining a program of instruction, all lesson plans, training materials and class attendance rosters in Afghanistan, in support of nationalization.
May be required to perform as a small arms range safety instructor for the M-9 and M-16 (M-4) weapons.
Performs other duties as directed.
Knowledge & Skills
Knowledge of supported aircraft and associated weapons. Working knowledge of aircraft maintenance programs.
Good verbal and written communications skills in English
Completion of associated weapons school for weapons supported.
Must have thorough knowledge of hand tools, hardware and equipment used in the maintenance of weapons and weapons systems on hand.
Must be fully knowledgeable of all requirements within the Tech Orders as they apply.
Must be able to interpret technical data.
Previous U.S. Government agency security clearance within the last 15 years required or approved NACI within the last 10 years required.
Experience & Education
Minimum of 3 years’ experience in the maintenance and support of the weapons assigned to this contract.
Completion of high school or equivalent is desired; however ability to read, write and interpret technical data is required.
Physical Requirements/Working Environment
Must be able to withstand extreme temperatures and environments while working in field conditions.
Must be able to maneuver body into limited spaces while performing LSE inspections/maintenance.
Must be able to lift 90 pounds to waste level and 75 pounds to shoulder height.
May be required to carry, push or pull up to 90 pounds.
Must have dexterity in both hands.
Must have vision in both eyes, be able to distinguish color and have depth perception.
May be required to work while standing or walking on uneven surfaces indoors and outdoors for up to 8 hours continuously.
Must be able to climb stairs, ramps, ladders and work-stands.
May be exposed to extreme noise hazards as found in an aviation environment
May be exposed to chemical, mist, gas, vapors, ultra-violet, infra-red radiation, and class I-II lasers.
Must possess a passport, travel and work in remote and potentially hostile OCONUS locations under austere conditions.
Travel
10 – 15%
Travel to austere or inhospitable high stress environments will be required.
Ability to travel domestically and internationally.
