Title: Sr. Specialist, Executive Speechwriting Dept/Location: Public Affairs (200270) / VA Office Reports To: Vice President, Public Affairs/Chief Public Affairs Officer Supervises: None Classification: Exempt Summary: Researches, writes and edits speeches, articles, op-eds, letters to the editor, profiles, background reports and talking points on key industry issues. Essential Functions: • Research and analyze information, using diverse sources, to write speeches for NADA leadership and executive staff. • Develop talking points • Interview staff, association members and industry experts for relevant content. • Develop material and content that articulates association’s priorities and positions. • Determine strategic speaking opportunities. • Write and edit content for online publications. • Write op-eds, press releases and other original content as needed. • Work with NADA Leadership and staff to determine major themes, speech format, legal compliance of content and timelines for drafts and final product. • Simplify and clarify complex legal, legislative, regulatory and statistical information using clear and concise language. • Manage speaking calendar and venue detail. • Develop and maintain storage and retrieval of completed work. • Assist with other special projects as needed. Non-Essential Functions: • Other job duties as assigned Qualifications: Education and Work ExperienceBA degree in Journalism, English, Communications, Public Relations or related field. 5-7 years professional experience required. Strong knowledge of grammar, writing, editing and proofing required. Research and interviewing skills essential. Extremely proficient with MS Word and PowerPoint. Experience on Capitol Hill a plus.
