Mechanical Engineer
Requirements
Job Classification: Contract
Candidate in this position is responsible for the designing of the insulin pump catheter insertion mechanism (insulin pump lancet system). The mechanical engineer will apply Engineering principals in researching, designing, evaluating, installing, operating and maintaining mechanical products, equipment, systems and process.
- Expertise in mechanical design, tools, fixtures, and simple machining
- Proficient in SolidWorks
- Must have experience with injection molding, prototyping and test concepts
- Participates in the research and development of mechanical components and systems, utilizing advanced knowledge of mechanical theory and materials properties.
- Component and assembly designing experience
- Confirms system and product capabilities by designing feasibility and testing methods; testing properties.
- Develops manufacturing processes by designing and modifying equipment for fabricating, building, assembling, and installing components.
- Contributes to planning, design, development, modification and evaluation of mechanical parts, components, mechanical systems, equipment and packaging
- Designs and checks-out the modification, fabrication and assembly of prototype mechanical systems, experimental design and specialized test equipment.
- Selects components and equipment based on analysis of specifications and reliability.
- Contributes to the review of vendor capability to support development.
- Participates in the evaluation of the reliability of materials, properties and techniques used in production.
- Embraces the Design Control process by participating in design reviews and maintaining design history files.
- FEA Analysis experience in stress, fluid, thermal
- Other responsibilities as assigned.
- May be assigned and expected to perform other related duties and special projects as directed by the management team
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment
- Knowledge of Quality Systems (FDA QSR/GMP, ISO13485)
Skills
- SolidWorks or CAD programs
- Experienced CAD designer
- Knowledge of medical device design, disposables, patch pumps and material selection
- Experienced in spring loaded mechanisms and/or needle injection systems
- FEA analysis
Experience
- Direct
- 8+ years working with mechanical systems design, development and implementation
- 5+ years mechanical (needle injection systems, spring loaded mechanisms, pump infusion sets) experience.
- Medical device experience
- 5 + years industry experience including detailed design, design testing, testing documentation, and prototype fabrication of medical devices, including experience with conceptual design to market release.
- Indirect
- FDA, QSR/GMP, Mil-Spec and/or ISO13485 experience
Education
- MSME or PhD preferred; minimum BSME with 8+ years of meaningful industry experience
