TT at Colorado Mesa Univ, Grand Junction CO

RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible for teaching lower division physics courses for science and liberal arts majors as well as upper division physics courses. The standard teaching load is 12 credit hours per semester. Involving undergraduate students in research projects and development of a research program, participation in the ongoing development of the physics program, service to the University, and academic advising are all required.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: Ph.D. in Physics or a closely related discipline by August 2014 is required. Postdoctoral teaching and research experience are preferred. Effectiveness in teaching, an enthusiasm for working with and an ability to inspire undergraduate students, and effective communication skills are required. While candidates from all areas of physics will be considered, applicants with backgrounds in experimental physics and an interest in teaching electronics and upper division lab courses are especially encouraged to apply.

The Department of Physics at Hendrix College invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position beginning in August 2014.  Candidates should hold a Ph.D. in physics or a closely-related field; post-doctoral experience is desirable.  The ideal candidate will be expected to teach across all levels of the physics curriculum and participate in the interdisciplinary course for first-year students, The Engaged Citizen (www.hendrix.edu/TheEngagedCitizen/), every few years.  Providing opportunities for engaged learning is a core mission of the College, cf. the Odyssey program (lww.hendrix.edu/Odyssey/).  The physics department primarily supports this mission through the involvement of undergraduates in scientific research.  The candidate must demonstrate the ability to develop and maintain a sustainable research program involving undergraduates.  The area of research is open but an experimental program is strongly preferred.  Lab space and start-up funds will be provided. Faculty Openings: Physics and Astronomy
The Department of Physics and Astronomy at Calvin College invites applications for two full-time faculty appointments, pending administrative approval, one on a tenure track and the other on a two-year term.
About the positions
A Ph.D. degree in physics or astronomy is required for the tenure-track position and is preferred for the term position, although applicants holding Masters degrees will be considered in the latter case. Candidates should have outstanding promise as classroom teachers and undergraduate research mentors. Applicants in all specialties will be considered, but preference will be given to those who have experimental expertise and can either make use of our observatory as a research tool or further our existing programs in experimental AMO physics. Pending final administrative approval, the appointments will begin August 2014.
About the department and the college
The department offers majors and minors in physics and minors in astronomy and optics; cognate courses for programs in engineering, education, and the health sciences; and introductory courses in the college’s core curriculum. Each member of the department maintains an active program of undergraduate research or professional service.
