Rowan University is a comprehensive state-designated research institution with approximately 14,000 students. The Rowan University Department of Physics and Astronomy invites applications for a tenure-track Instructor position beginning Fall 2014. We seek candidates who are passionate about teaching at the undergraduate level. Successful candidates are expected to mostly teach general physics to science and engineering majors, coordinate the introductory courses, develop and enhance laboratory experiences, and participate in curriculum development.
A Ph.D. degree in Physics is preferred, but M.S. degree may be considered. Postdoctoral experience is valued, but not required. Strong candidates will have experience and demonstrated excellence in teaching college-level physics.
The Department of Physics & Astronomy currently consists of 10 faculty members, a laboratory coordinator, an instrument coordinator, secretary, and serves over 130 physics majors who have ten active research facilities that foster student/faculty collaborative research including labs for magnetics, physical properties, thin film fabrication, microscopy, biophysics, laser cooling, and computational physics. A new research program in Physics Education Research will be initiated. The department also houses an observatory, a planetarium, and a machine shop.
