Full-Time, Tenure-Track Faculty Position: Joint Chemistry-Physics August 2014
The Department of Natural Sciences at Castleton State College seeks applications for a tenure-track position in the college's anticipated new B.S. program in Chemistry beginning August 2014. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Chemistry, Physics, or a related field (ABDs close to completion will be considered) and evidence of commitment to undergraduate education. The successful candidate will develop and teach a two-semester sequence in Physical Chemistry with laboratories, as well as teach an introductory two-semester sequence in Physics for non-physics majors, and upper level electives in his/her specialty for the Chemistry program. In addition, the hired faculty will play an active role in developing our new Chemistry program, including courses, curriculum and assessment. Applicants actively engaged in scholarly research that can be adapted to undergraduate projects in Chemistry are also desired.
Castleton places a special value on the teaching role of its faculty, and candidates for this position will be evaluated on the basis of their potential to be outstanding teachers. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with colleagues are also essential. Salary is dependent on qualifications and experience. Castleton is a growing and vibrant liberal arts college of about 2,000 undergraduates located in the beautiful lakes region of western Vermont.
