The Department of Chemistry & Physics at Western Carolina University (WCU) invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level to begin August 2014.
We seek a physicist who can teach high-quality, engaged physics courses at the undergraduate level. Preference will be given to those candidates who can demonstrate potential to create experiential opportunities for students through their scholarship. This is a growing department with a commitment to experiential learning and regional engagement.
The applicant should have a strong commitment to excellence in teaching and research at the undergraduate level.
The successful candidate is expected to contribute to the department's vibrant undergraduate research program, develop a research program that includes some focus on the region, and seek external funding to help support our mission.
Western Carolina University is a 10,000-student campus in the University of North Carolina system that offers 120 areas of study for undergraduates and more than 50 graduate-level programs. The Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools accredits WCU to award baccalaureate, masters, education specialist, and doctoral degrees. The campus is located in the picturesque Cullowhee valley in the Blue Ridge Mountains 50 miles west of Asheville, North Carolina.
Minimum Training & Experience Requirements: The candidate is required to have a PhD in physics from an accredited institution at the time of hire, although an ABD candidate would be considered. Preference will be give to candidates who have teaching experience at the college level.
Preferred Qualifications: Preferred candidates should have a clear research plan and a strong interest in involving students in their research.
