STAFF DIRECTOR / CHIEF COUNSELU.S. HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES COMMITTEE ON ETHICS Staff Director / Chief Counsel, House Committee on Ethics (Washington, DC) -- The House Committee on Ethics requires the services of an attorney with knowledge of government ethics law to serve as the Committee’s Staff Director and Chief Counsel. The Committee’s Staff Director / Chief Counsel is a nonpartisan, professional position. The Staff Director / Chief Counsel will manage a nonpartisan, professional staff of approximately 25 and supervise the day-to-day operations of the Committee, including oversight of the advice and education and investigative divisions. In addition, the Staff Director/Chief Counsel will serve as the principal legal advisor to the Committee and report to the Chair and Ranking Member of the Committee. The ideal candidate for this position possesses a law degree, admission to a state bar and previous management experience. Demonstrable analytical, organizational, writing, oral communication and interpersonal skills are expected. Candidates with Capitol Hill experience are preferred. Must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid security clearance. About the Committee: The U.S. House Committee on Ethics is the only standing committee of the House whose membership is evenly divided between each political party. The Committee includes five members of each party. Also, unlike other committees, the day-to-day work of the Committee on Ethics is conducted by a staff that is nonpartisan by rule. Under House rules, the Committee has the jurisdiction to administer travel, gift, financial disclosure, outside income, and other regulations; advise members and staff; issue advisory opinions and investigate potential ethics violations.
